Argo (2012) #1

I saw it today. It was really really good. Affleck did an amazing job here, both acting and directing.

I agree!!!

I'm copying this from my movie challenge, so I'm sorry if it's lengthy:

Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! Amazing!

Wow!!! What a movie!!! Right from the very beginning it just grips you tight, barely lets you breathe, basically gives you a heart attack all the way through - and it was all worth it!

When I saw the trailer for this movie the first time, I thought that Argo was CIA jargon for something; obviously I guessed wrong. Argo was the title of the script/movie that Tony Mendez (Affleck) proposes to the CIA as his cover for getting six American embassy employees trapped in Iran back to the U.S. safely.

Absolutely loved seeing some of my favorite character actors in this! Titus Welliver, Zeljko Ivanek, even Kyle Chandler (Coach!)

I thought the writing was just flawless. In the beginning of the movie there’s a brief narration of the events that occurred prior to the American embassy in Iran being taken over by militia and subsequently acquiring hostages and forcing the six to seek refuge from neighboring embassies - and a brave, courageous Canadian Ambassador taking them in is one of the most poignant moments I’ve seen. The idea of making the intro into a cartoon/storyboard was brilliant! It definitely became less boring than the usual narratives of late. Plus I learned a lot in those few seconds than I ever did in school or news.

Argo is especially much more meaningful now because of the horrible events in Libya, which took American lives. The first few minutes I was watching and seeing the demonstrators jump over the gate and into U.S. territory, I couldn’t help but think of what happened in Libya, and that monumentally scared me even more since this movie was based on actual events, and the similarities were very eerie.

I have to say that Affleck has turned out to be one of the most talented directors around. If you’ve seen even one of his movies that he’s directed, you know I’m not just bull****ting you to watch this film. He really has come into his own and has developed into a very meticulous, arduous director, and I highly respect him for that. He has a knack for rounding up an amazing cast in each movie and for telling a very compelling story each time. Bravo!
My favorite has got to be the catchphrase: “Argo **** yourself!” LMAO (Hint for those who don’t get it: think pirate)
