Millie I know you and I didn't love the sequel, but this was a pretty cool sequence ~

^^ I think I liked it better when I watched them all at once as a cohesive unit!

As a stand alone it was not great.

Wow, I didn't know about this. Cast includes Lin Shaye (from Insidious) and Demian Bichir? Impressive. Always liked John Cho, too. I remember Andrea Riseborough from 'Never Let Me Go'.

The way her body moves as she comes after people is so creepy! Plus, the way it ties into her backstory - she broke her ankle then her husband snapped her neck

It's the little boy I felt sorry for. The one who sounds like a cat.

And that sound she makes... That part of the first one where she rings the sister of the man who bought the house and makes that damn scary noise freaks me out

Sounds effects and movements are so important for a horror character be believable and leave an impression and these films do that for sure.

Definitely. Plus, when people try to compare Kayako to The Ring's Samara, it just annoys me. Everyone thinks they're similar characters because of the "death rage" they have in common, but their backstories are very different and the ways in which they kill are very distinct from each other. I'd argue that there is prolonged suspense with Samara, and she's able to fool people into thinking she's a victim, which is scarier than anything really.

With Kayako, her backstory was basically: married woman's hot teacher obsession gets out of hand. (Very awful summary, I know )... But the way in which she is killed is much more sympathetic than Samara's. Mrs Morgan was driven crazy by Samara, whereas Kayako was tortured by her brutally jealous husband.

There is no comparison. The only similarity to either is when Samara crawls out of the well or TV, she has similar arm movements, that's it.

100% agree. People often confuse the franchises, and I don't get why. Very different stories.

That part where she pulls the woman into the bed (into hell?) -
