I want to go see Hero soon. I have to say I'm fairly new to Asian Cinema except what is fairly main stream: Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, Crouching Tiger, Iron Monkey, but I really enjoy it. If anyone has any recomendations please let me know.

theAngel - i was born and raised in Philippines so asian cinema (mainly chinese movies) had always been a part of our lives. when i moved to US, i still watch em, and now i've come to be more acquainted to the actors/actresses.
anyways, i subscribe to the brillant Giant Robot Magazine, a Asian Pop Culture magazine based in Los Angeles, CA. in their latest e-mail, they added this: *** From GR Newsletter: IN A THEATRE NEAR YOU Zhang Yimou’s HERO http://www.miramax.com/hero/index.html Pen-ek Ratanaruang’s LAST LIFE IN THE UNIVERSE http://www.palmpictures.com/videos/l...euniverse.html Takashi Miike’s GOZU http://www.pathfinderpictures.com/ COMING SOON TAE GUK GI opens September 3 http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/taegukgi/ GHOST IN THE SHELL: INNOCENCE opens September 17 http://www.gofishpictures.com/GITS2/main.html And much more. . .for more film matters, sign up at filmmatters@giantrobot.com. I really wonder how Hero will perform in theaters considering a large part of the target audience has already seen the movie.

shlee - hopefully there would be a good turnout, considering this weekend there isn't a big movie out....

all in all i liked it....i'm glad i watched in on a big screen....it is a film of epic proportions...with a story i'm familiar with....i think maybe a year or two ago i saw another film called 'jing ke ci qin wang....('the emperor and the assassin'.....with li gong....a 3 hour film....which explores a related story).....the martial arts choreograph reminded me of 'crouching tiger.....' but i thought it was better displayed in this film.......if anything this film makes me want to follow the acting careers and films of the principle actors in this film even more..... just out of curiosity did anyone here see 'wo de fu qin mu qin' (the road home) with ziyi zhang? it's probably my favorite ziyi zhang film.....i saw it in a theater a few years back...and i really enjoyed watching that film.....i thought it was very very romantic.... |

mukooh- am off to see Hero today... last night i saw Garden State (brillant film too btw! ) and the peson next to me was buying Hero tickets, and the lady selling was like " sir, its subtitled..." and he's like "no problem".. i'm glad they didn't dub it, i HATE it when they do that!
speaking of zhang ziyi, there's an article on her on People magazine, and she mentioned that she learned english from listening to cds, one was Norah Jones and someone i can't remember right now.. |

Hey I have'nt been in this thread for ages so forgive me if you have already spoken about this film.
I finally saw Infernal Affairs. I found it a little confusing at first but then it gets really good. It reminded me of '24' (very good in my book). I wonder what the remake will be like... I think some of the charm of watching the original is because it is set in Hong Kong. __________________
