Johnny should have been recognized for Donnie Brasco and Blow. Those two performances easily blow anything else nominated in the past 8 or 9 years out of the water

Actually, I think if Edward Scissorhands was made today, he'd be recognized for awards. Edward is a powerful personality, and Johnny had to acquire techniques of using dangerous tools to pick things up and create ice sculptures

people underestimate his commitment to that role.

I agree. It's sad that such intense and diverse roles like Scissorhands are overlooked for more dramatic roles, like the work style Johnny does isn't as good or something.

I think there's something unique about Johnny's acting choices that is truly underappreciated by The Academy. He specifically chooses difficult projects because he enjoys playing characters who are misunderstood or on rocky paths.

^^ Exactly and the Academy seems to have a stick up it's butt about only picking dramatic roles. They need to be just as diverse in the film genres as they are with the diversity of someone's skin!

They clearly care more about being considered "PC" than rewarding deserving achievements. They didn't even recognize Pacino for 'The Godfather', which says everything

But unbelievably heroic and self-sacrificing, too. He did what he did to save Kim, knowing he'd be labelled as the bad guy by the townspeople.
