They are doing a TV remake, that just seems so weird to me. The original was amazing, you can't compete with that Glad she turned it down.

Did anyone actually watch the remake?
I recorded it but haven't watched it yet. I don't know that I will but I also don't know that I won't. I did watch the last ten minutes and I couldn't believe how little dancing there was in the "I've had the time of my life" sequence. Plus, that epilogue? Pssssh. That is not how the Real Baby and Real Johnny would have ended up. (Even if they didn't end up together.) Just those few minutes have made me want to see the original and I think that's what I'm going to do the first day I have off of work. All I know is that I've consumed a lot of the original stuff recently and it's such an amazing movie. And it just goes to show you how some things just have to align. The chemistry was so perfect between Patrick and Jennifer. I was surprised they didn't have a couples thread. __________________

Everyone's saying how terrible the remake was
Honestly, in my opinion, it wasn't nearly as good as the original. I like the actors, but I dunno I just like the original one a whole lot better __________________

I think everyone would find the original to be better than a remake of any movie/show, so not surprised to hear that.

Take a movie like Shop Around The Corner with James Stewart and Margaret Sullavan. It was made in 1940 and was so well received that a musical version, In The Good Old Summertime, was made only 9 years later starring Judy Garland and Van Johnson. (Could you imagine if only 9 years passed between an original and a sequel these days? ) Then in 1998, You've Got Mail with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan came out and that was based on the same premise but threw in the internet to keep up with the times. I love all three versions of those movies. The original is probably the most celebrated but I probably prefer You've Got Mail. All were successful, however. __________________

I've only seen You've Got Mail and did love it. So that's also a scenario. Not having seen the original but only the remake, you wouldn't know what the original was like to compare them. I guess it would depend on the remake, but just haven't heard many remakes being celebrated.

I recorded the remake, and finally got around to watching it...but I got 55 minutes into it and I needed a break. I might get to the other 2 hours in few days. I don't think Dirty Dancing needed a remake...how could have done it better, and why would you need to update it? It's not like they set the new one in a different era. I think if you watch the remake with no knowledge of the original it might be okay...but as a huge fan of the original, it doesn't come close to measuring up. And casting wise, the guy playing Johnny isn't bad, he's not Patrick, but he's not bad. But they missed the mark so badly on Baby. They needed an actress with more, um, range. & experience. So far the only thing I've liked is the singing and dancing in the staff bunkhouse scene...I was like, what? They're singing? Okay. both guys had great voices.

For anyone who subscribes to Hulu, the Dirty Dancing remake will expire on June 24th.
