Saw the movie today - the book is my favorite book ever - and I was really, really surprised as how lovely the film was. It felt like I was reading the book. I definitely recommend reading the book first tho! And then go see the film because it's so well done, their chemistry is beautiful, and the movie in general is very moving.

I remember seeing this movie a few years ago and being genuinely surprised by how much I liked it. Didn't think I would because of all the hype but it was nice but also bittersweet.

The only thing that bugged me is that Dexter takes ages to grow up, then when he does, he's engaged to someone and leaving Emma suffering in silence yet again... Then when they actually get together, it feels so rushed and glossed over that you feel robbed

...But that's the whole point, I guess. It wants you to feel what Dexter feels by the end. It's a day in the life of their relationship every year, and they were cheated out of happiness because they always had bad timing. It's so tragic yet relatable. I can see why people liked the book.

Sooo One Day is a shippers' fest galore with various lovey-dovey and melodramatic scenes.

My favorite moment from the movie is probably the whole sequence where Dexter sees Emma again at their friends' wedding and he seems almost too nervous to approach her for a while, but you can tell he's affected when their mutual friend Callum (who later hooks up with Sylvie) blurts out how gorgeous she's become.


There's something in the way Dexter looks at her in that scene that illuminates his desire for her. She's chatting with many men as he looks on with jealousy, and she's clearly content with being single, yet there's something lacking... And once they reunite a few moments later, you just know that the emptiness they felt is repairing itself now they're back together. (Although there's added drama with Dexter's reluctance to tell her that he's due to get married and be a father. )

I thought the make-up and costume departments did a good job of depicting the transition of time for the actors. They genuinely looked younger here in the 80s timeline

Plus, Anne plays the nervous version of Emma very well. She does come across as someone who has finally gotten a chance with her big crush and wants to present herself well to his parents

I remember Anne got a lot of criticism 10 years ago for her English accent in the film but I can honestly say I've heard a LOT worse than her.

She was consistent with it and didn't do the usual 'just make it as posh-sounding as possible' as in the way many Americans usually do it because they think everyone in Britain sounds like royalty, which is hilariously untrue

Rafe Spall deserves a shout-out for his adorable portrayal of Ian
