I didn't totally get sick with the idea of a sequel... That was before I heard the male lead could potentially be played by Ashton Kutcher!

Is this a joke?? You need a well known, modern "hunk" to sell the movie! Last time I checked Basic Instinct is not suitable for the Kutcher crowd (not counting Demi Moore of course ) Unless they're watering down the sex fest and with it, the essence of the movie to appeal to a wider audience...

The first movie is a good thriller, ahem, a good raunchy thriller that can play with someone's head just because Michael Douglas did a great job of looking lost/confused/crazy/lustful and then giving in at the end to the little fantasy Catherine feeds him.

For this sequel I would rather see a little known actor like Cillian Murphy (he's so darn gorgeous!) or a mega star like Johnny Depp, but a good actor nonetheless....

Ashton was decent in The Butterfly effect but that one didn't have freakin' Michael Douglas playing its first version!

Hmm. Let's see what an Ashton/Stone movie would look like:

1) PG-13.

All the hardcore, simulated sex will be toned down and a lot of close-ups of the character grunting and moaning will be used instead of full body shots

In addition, the icepick will turn into something less "violent". I don't know... How about a good old fashioned hunting knife *cough, Scream, *cough?

2) May/December gone awry: The Ewww Factor.

It will be ridiculous having Sharon Stone (47) manipulate Ashton Kutcher (26) because she is old enough to be his mother because that alone is too obvious since an experienced, wordly woman like Catherine Tramell WOULD manipulate someone as young and niave as Kutcher in real life. There's no "story" worth telling there in my opinion.

3) Directed by some hack (I.E. Bret Rattner)

They'll get some director who is completley unfit for the genre like Bret Rattner (who massacred Thomas Harris' Red Dragon) just so they can have "A-List" talent with semi-respectable track records attached to the film.

However, all of the things I mentioned above won't be noticeable because...

ASHTON KUTCHER CAN NOT ACT!

If they were doing a serious, adult-version of this sequel then they should get someone like Clive Owen, or Ben Browder ("Farscape") as an effective male lead against Sharon Stone.

In addition, it also says he is "in talks" and what that means in Hollywoodspeak is his name came up on a list of "who is hot right now?" and that doesn't necessarily mean he is number one on that list as well. He could and probably is more realistically like number 4, 5 and 6 choice given he's only done a few movies and they haven't really been mega hits too boot.
