They somehow made Daniel Cleaver the more appealing choice than Mark Darcy for Bridget. When she's on holiday with Daniel, she stops feeling insignificant and can relax with him. What a pity that the writer was too hung up on keeping her with the book's answer to Fitzwilliam Darcy from Austen's novel. If Colin Firth hadn't gained popularity in P&P then l doubt people would care for him in this series. __________________

It's years later and I still loathe Bridget Jones' Baby.

This tweeter is clearly not aware of how much weight Renee put on for this role. (And then the dangerous amount of weight she lost shortly after for Chicago.)
We can joke now about Bridget not looking *dangerously* huge, but it still makes sense that she's paranoid about her weight - especially when they have her opposite Daniel Cleaver's naked fiancee who nastily says "I thought you said she was thin?" What was considered ~fat~ 20 years ago is drastically different now. __________________

Yeah I can imagine her being self conscious back then
I don't think the person who tweeted that was making a joke though just pointing out how different body standards were back then |

It's definitely a dangerous conversation (weight), I mean there are many times I've felt perfectly fine with myself but then I've had someone close to me remark about how I'm so much "shapelier" than I was at uni and to say it makes me paranoid is an understatement.
So I think in Bridget Jones, they did a good job of exposing the different reactions to weight issues depending on one's personality. Definitely interesting how Daniel was a playboy but they never really hinted that HE had a problem with Bridget's weight. It was the woman from America who used it to make her feel bad. That's why I love the movie; you can be a total jerk but still sensitive about these type of issues. Daniel was an example of that __________________

Thanks yeah I had a major weight gain in my late 20s but I developed thicker skin too so it wasn't like school, where ironically I was picked on for being small and slight.
But I definitely think Bridget Jones is a great fictional role model because she's so relatable and there comes a point where she stops listening to what others are saying, and does what is right for her. __________________

Hugh was so funny here, I could feel Renee's laughter was legitimate

It was sneaky revealing at the end that they thought he died in a plane crash but he was alive
That was a plot twist I didn’t see coming either I was glad that Mark Darcy and Bridget got their happy ending with their baby boy and marriage finally Mark was very sweet with his son |
