This movie makes me feel old.

Not in the bad sense, but in the sense that I can remember just how old I was when it first came out.

Of all of the John Hughes movies, this isn't my favorite, but it is unquestionably the most iconic (all of which seems like I'm criticizing the movie in a negative light, which couldn't be farther from the truth, except that it is, TBH, my least favorite of his movies and my least favorite movie starring that gorgeous red-head, Molly Ringwald).

In fact, I think that I have read interviews with her explaining that this was the movie that got her out of the acting biz -- which has been a tremendous loss to Western Culture, if you know what I mean, lol....

But the themes of teenage rebellion are themes I have learned (at great cost -- as in, a friend who refused to rebel openly is now so mentally ill that I refuse to describe what happened to her!) to be crucial to that little old thing called, "growing up."

That's what I love about it - how it brings together a bunch of troubled teens with very different personalities and has them be refreshingly honest about their troubles with each other, then go their separate ways the next day. The idea that they could come out of their shells and be upfront about the people they really want to be but can't allow themselves to be in public is what really drew me to the movie.

It was well scripted and very well acted.
