The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas [2008]

The final scene...

Ironically, I saw it coming right from the start and yet it still hit me like a ton of bricks. It's a slow burn, you see the boy edging to the fence and you're thinking "nooo don't go under there" and he's totally naive as to what happens once you're on that side of it. He thinks it's all a game, with his new friend. Until it hits him -- the bleak, intimidating environment. The other striped pyjamas people looking emaciated and hopeless... And here is this boy, just trying to help his friend find his father. Now he's trapped.

And slowly but surely forced down into the gas chamber.

This whole scene, as it begins to violently rain, juxtaposed with the boy's parents (played by David Thewlis and Vera Farmiga) racing towards the site and realizing what it means that they cannot see him, but his clothes are strewn on the muddy ground and there's smoke emitting from the gas chamber chimney...

Ugh. I feel choked up just typing this. It hurts. This was a young, innocent boy, who was aware that his father was part of some oppressive system and realized that the Jews were being unjustly sacrificed, through this blossoming friendship that was keeping them both centered and afloat in the midst of war.

Two kids are murdered, two young boys on opposite sides of the social spectrum who found comfort and rediscovered youth in their irrevocable bond. It's a lesson to living each moment as it comes, as you never know when it will all end...

One of the best scenes I’ve ever watched in any animated movie

Makes me cry every time

That was a nice reunion scene, I just wish it was longer. I also wish they would of included a scene of John and Michael as adults, that would of been nice to see.

Re-watched this movie

And cried again at 2 in the morning especially during this scene

This was actually the first thing I ever saw KJ in back in 2017

I love KJ in this movie

He’s so good in it and his bond with the dog is so genuine

It does make me really sad on Riverdale how Vegas passed away when Archie left for the army

Currently watching a French reactor react to this movie on YT

Thinking about it now this is actually the saddest animated Disney movie I’ve ever watched tbh

The scene that actually makes me cry and gets to me the most is this one

In BLUE VALENTINE, Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams really nailed the tragic romantic tension of the "I have nothing left to give" scenario of their relationship where they've reached breaking point -

Very draining Ryan's character kinda goes off the rails when he suspects Michelle's character still loves her ex.

Oh that’s what it’s about okay

Yeah JTT played the heartbreak of that scene so well

Was fox and the hound a movie you grew up watching by the way Gwen?

This scene always gets to me

With how they’ve grown apart as friends

But deep down still care for each other
