Introduction Thread! (for newbies/regulars/LURKERS -all welcome! + REGISTRATION INFO)

Hey all -

I realize this board can be big, scary, and incredibly busy, and that it's difficult for shy people to jump into what might sometimes look like established communities. So I'm starting this thread so that we can get to know each other.

If you like, post something movie related that special to you - it'll help make each and every one of you more distinctive.

And if you have any questions for ROCKSTAR or me that aren't movie related (because we have a movie Q&A thread already), feel free to ask it here.

ETA:

Here's all the info on joining - for all you lurkers - thanks to Kelly_mvpics.

Hi shrrshrr

I saw you post on the mod board that you were having trouble getting people together so I thought I'd come by because I know what it's like and also because I'm a huuuuge movie fanatic....

Hmm, okay, what to say, what to say...

Well my name is Maria, I'll be 23 this month and I reside in Finland(which is in Europe, in case you've never heard...) and I've been a huge movie fan well basicly all my life I guess I was quite inwardly as a kid, I liked being at home and I was really shy but I think I've always liked observing people and analysing them maybe this is what got me started with movies, when others were out drinking or doing all those "crazy" adolescent activities, I sat home infront of our telly and I watched a lot of movies...I loved them because they were my gateway to another world and I could be anywhere without leaving the house...heh I have quite the collection of movies, of old vhs tapes, bought and recorded and my dvd collection coming along nicely too, they have pretty much taken over the house

Hiya!

Hopefully others will join us - and for the record, my college boyfriend was from Finland, so I do know where it is. Plus, you know, the whole Tolkien thing.

And yeah - I LOVED movies as a kid. They'd frequently take me away to some magical place. Guess I fell in love with them then, too.

My name is Nikki and I'm 20. Will be 21 in October... I live in Puerto Rico which is a great place to live.

I love movies, it's ridiculous sometimes how I get into it. Sadly, my movie viewing has been suffering because college takes all my time and all I can see now are the really available films. I'm missing on not well known gems but I'll make it up soon.

Like Shr mentioned feel free to PM us with any questions.

He was ? That's cool...I was just mentioning because a lot of people don't know where it is...Umm, sorry I'm not really Tolkien savvy, what thing? Yeah, movies were so great as kid, a way to escape the cruel world....

it seems to be pretty silent here....

Don't know why, but introduction threads don't usually fly here (which is why I topped this one, hoping people would notice it).

And the Elvish language was based on the Finnish language, which is the basic reason Tolkien wrote the books (to develop the language he'd created).

Hiya, Michael!
Good to know you - and interesting choice of movies.

well well well you get around mr. modman right now the name Sub makes me think of subs, the food (allthough I've never eaten one I think... ) but that might be because I'm hungry and too lazy/tired to do anything about it... about your list, I looove Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King(i'm a sucker for animations, especially Disney... ) and Cruel Intentions is one of my all time favorite movies...And your actor/actress list ain't bad either...While on the subject(no pun intended...) my other favorite movies include Life as a House, Playing by Heart, When Harry Met Sally, Ocean's Eleven, Pirates of the Caribbean and Shrek 2...

shrr- hmmm, maybe people are too focused in talking about particular movies that they don't want to talk about themselves it's a shame really, it's nice to get to know your posters better... do you have an OT thread here

Wau, I didn't know about that Tolkien thing, that's very interesting.... so what are your favorite movies or movies you like a lot....?

Hello everyone! Thought I'd post here, since I've been posting on this board for a while now.

OK, so my name is Madelen, 21 and I'm from Finland. I LOVE movies!
Some of my faves are Moulin Rouge, Shrek 1&2, The Sting, Grease, LOTR trilogy, Life as A House, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Pirates of the Caribbeans etc.

Some of my fave actors and actresses are Johnny Depp, Hayden Christensen, Keanu Reeves, Diane Keaton, Julia Stiles, Kirsten Dunst, Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant...

I love musicals, old black and white movies, old finnish comedies...I like pretty much every movie genre there is, except horror movies - I'm too scared to watch them!

Maria and Subject - nice to see you here! I think I've seen you guys on another board. Which is it now....hmmm....

Hi madelen

Yeah my nickname also makes me want to go out and get a Subway sub. I've thought about people calling me Sub outside of FF but I think I wouldn't be able to handle all of the jokes my friends would make.

"Life as a House, Playing by Heart, Ocean's Eleven"

I also enjoyed those movies. I like movies more that focus on the nature of deep emotional feelings. As I do in television shows. Of course sometimes it's good to just watch the basic horror or action movie. Most of the films that I love come from Columbia Pictures. My fav. producer is also Jerry Bruckhiemer(sp?)

One thing that a movie and show can not go without it music. Some scenes would not have the same emotional impact without the right songs. Which is why I was disappointed in the release of the Roswell dvds.

So true. Have you ever tried to watch a horror movie or a thriller on mute? It isn't as exciting when you don't have the music in the background....Mystic River had excellent music, by the way...

Speaking of TV shows...Gilmore Girls has usually good music.

Actually, I totally agree with this, which is why I, too, am disappointed in the Roswell DVDs (although - it's Roswell, so it's not all bad , but having the original music would have been a million times better).

This gives me a thread idea...

And not nearly as scary, either!

I agree about movies needing music. But have you guys seen Dogme 95 movies? This films have no music unless it is natural, like the scene takes place at a club where there would be music anyway, etc.
