A FLASHBACK TO NEW ORLEANS IN 1942 — When Stefan ({Paul Wesley) confronts Damon (Ian Somerhalder) with a suspicion about Elena (Nina Dobrev), Damon has no choice but to help Stefan investigate. Searching for answers, Damon and Stefan visit modern day New Orleans to see if they can find anyone who remembers the events of their last visit in 1942, including one of Damon’s former flames, Charlotte (guest star Madeline Zima). Elena, Caroline (Candice Accola) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) share a girls’ night while the Salvatore brothers are out of town, and emotions run high when Elena delivers some shocking news. At Hayley’s (guest star Phoebe Tonkin) urging, Tyler (Michael Trevino) confronts one of Klaus’ hybrids, Kimberly (guest star Alyssa Diaz), and the situation quickly escalates into violence. Finally, Damon is faced with a heartbreaking decision.

A WINTER WONDERLAND IN MYSTIC FALLS — As a Winter Wonderland-themed party fills the streets of Mystic Falls, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline (Candice Accola) find themselves at odds with Tyler (Michael Trevino) over his plans for Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and his hybrids. When Caroline proposes a solution to their problem, Hayley (guest star Phoebe Tonkin) finds a dramatic way to make it clear that she is not on board. Later, Klaus makes a discovery that leads to chaos and violence. Meanwhile, Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon retreat to the Gilbert Lake House to help Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) conquer some dangerous inner demons with the help of Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Professor Shane (guest star David Alpay), who reveals a piece of ancient history that leaves them all speechless. Zach Roerig also stars.

ahhhhh you guys im in Delena heaven right now !!! that was soooo hooot soo good to be true !!! so beautiful and sweet so rought and yet so gentle
i really dont care whar SErs are saying right now tbh i want them to be hanging with us let them have hope and then get crashed so they can feel what we have been feeling this last 3 years (mean i know )
Damon didnt know about the sire bound i was sure about it and i was sure that the writers will never do that much regressing to his character and they are making it so obvious at this point that he is much better than that ! i think the only one who is getting character regressing is stefan right now he has been acting so selfishly ! if i was a stefan fan i will be so concerned by now
i really didnt like SC interruption but i think it was necessary to give a little hope for SErs and as long as we get our morning after sex i will be fine
and i dont really care about caroline's opinion the way she said :epic: made it obvious that she is a teenager dreamy girl who lives inside a fairytale book and all she want is SE leaving hapilly forever because they are soo sweet together and beautiful blah blah blah and im sure she will be back into the reality soon enought and her interactions with klaus in the last episode give little hints that she will question everything she used to beleive
i dont think we have anything to worry about right now everything is like we have planned all we need to do is relax and enjoy the journey

i dont know if i make any sense right now and im sorry about the bad writing

Although I do wonder if that was actually Nina laughing at Ian whispering or doing something.

The morning after scene is going to be beautiful. We are going to get a glimpse of what they could be like together. Happy and in love. But then I'm pretty sure Damon's decision is going to be to step away from her and all the happiness if going to be ripped away. Angst! I'm sadistic, but BRING IT ON!!!

Nope, I don't recall Elena looking that blissful. Biased, I know, but I remember after she and Stefan first had sex, she asked him to get a glass of water, then she saw Katherine's picture, fled and had an accident. Is that what Caroline calls epic?

I actually thought about this Maybe the fact that they are together in real life made the scene even more natural

It's definitely alarming for fans who have been waiting to see Damon and Elena get together for them to finally hook up, but have it be intercut with evidence that her feelings for him might not be genuine. Is there still hope that her feelings for him are real? Without taking sides one way or the other, just looking at it objectively from our point of view as storytellers, there is more hope than ever for them. It's just combined with a lot of very deep questions. Damon is a character who, his whole life -- as a vampire and as a human -- was looking for love and acceptance, and for someone to finally say, "Hey, you're good enough." He finally gets that from Elena, and now he has to question it. He wants to believe it's real. She truly believes it's real. But there's that nagging doubt, as to how much of it is true love and how much is the effects of a sire bond. It's a question that's going to take these two people who do care about each other so deeply, and just put the tiniest bit of an obstacle in their path. They have to figure out how to get around it. I've been sort of sad to see people on Twitter calling Elena derogatory names because they feel like she moved too fast, sleeping with Damon right after the breakup with Stefan. Did you guys have any concern in the writers' room that she was jumping into his arms, and his bed, too quickly? Plec: What we wanted to do in the writers' room was to give Stefan and Elena the most human, honest, and respectable breakup between a couple that had been that important for so long, and to put a real end to that, so that there was a freedom for her to now give in to this passion and this interest that's been brewing for over two and a half seasons. In the real world, would it happen that quickly? Maybe not. But I do think that the punctuation on the breakup is her finally giving in to these feelings for Damon, and then to raise the question of "Oh, God. Is that what she really felt or is it all part of the supernatural link between them?"

I can't believe that my eyes are truly seeing Elena kissing Damon. In his bed. Having sex. Is this real life?

As for the heart-breaking decision, I think so too, but I also think that they'll get back together quickly, because of Elena. Plus, there's the whole roadtrip that takes place in 4x09.
