6.16 - THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL

IAN SOMERHALDER MAKES HIS DIRECTORIAL DEBUT — After shutting off her humanity following the death of her mother, Caroline (Candice Accola) gives her friends an unexpected ultimatum. Not knowing how to handle the new Caroline, Stefan’s (Paul Wesley) attempt to intervene sets off a dangerous chain of events, leaving him and Elena (Nina Dobrev) in a race against the clock. Meanwhile, after seeking answers from Kai (guest star Chris Wood) about the prison world, Damon’s (Ian Somerhalder) world is turned upside when he learns some devastating news about his mother Lily (guest star Annie Wersching). Elsewhere, Enzo (Michael Malarkey) finds himself becoming increasingly intrigued by Sarah Salvatore (guest star Tristan Mays), and Bonnie (Kat Graham) begins to struggle with the effects of being back in the real world. 6.17 - A BIRD IN A GUILDED CAGE

DAMON TRAVELS TO THE 1903 PRISON WORLD -- With the help of Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Kai (guest star Chris Wood), Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) set forth a plan to rescue Damon’s mother Lily (guest star Annie Wersching), who is trapped in the 1903 prison world. Meanwhile, when Caroline's (Candice Accola) plan for Stefan (Paul Wesley) backfires, she is left to pick up the pieces. Elsewhere, back at Whitmore College, Enzo (Michael Malarkey) and Alaric’s (Matt Davis) attempt to reel Caroline back in doesn’t quite go as planned when they realize they're outmaneuvered. Lastly, an unexpected gift from Bonnie leaves Damon shaken to his core. Joshua Butler directed the episode written by Neil Reynolds (#617). Original airdate 3/19/2015.

Thanks Trich! So I'm gonna repost my comment from the previous thread here:

Doesn't it look like the merging ceremony in the promo? It looks like Kai but the other person doesn't look like Jo, it sort of looks like Liv. Then again, according to the 6x12 episode description the merging ceremony not suppose to happen until then. I think the promo could be for a couple of episodes because we know Steven isn't leaving until 6x14 and some of the clips seem to be from the episode that he'll be doing so.

On YT they made it seem like it's just one episode but I'm not sure. What do you guys think?

It definitely looks like multiple episodes in that promo b/c it does look like Ric & Elena are saying goodbye to Jer. Also I don't think Sarah's supposed to show up till ep 13

Yea definitely more like a winter promo. They did same thing last season when it returned from hiatus. I still think the DE kiss is next episode tho.

After viewing the promo again, looks like the first DE part is during daytime and the part we see at end is at night. So seems like that two separate scenes. Maybe the kiss doesn't happen until 6x12.

Or there could still be a kiss at end of 6x11 that wasn't in promo and in 6x12 they're trying to figure out how to go about their relationship. And then the scare with Liz at hospital leads Elena to make the decision not to waste any more time.
