Well the Prime Time Emmy Awards take place in just a couple weeks, on September 19th from 8-11pm on ABC. Good luck to Mariska and to our guest star noms!

Good luck to Mariska. She has some pretty tough competition.

from Reuters, Ray Richmond's take on the Lead Actress in a Drama category
Quote:
LEAD ACTRESS/DRAMA

Edie Falco, "The Sopranos" (HBO)

Jennifer Garner, "Alias" (ABC)

Mariska Hargitay, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (NBC)

Allison Janney, "The West Wing" (NBC)

Amber Tamblyn, "Joan of Arcadia" (CBS)

This is that rare performer category when we find two -- count 'em, two! -- newcomers among the five nominees. Those would be "Joan's" Tamblyn and Hargitay from "SVU." While Hargitay doesn't figure to pose much of a winning threat and has to be satisfied with the nomination alone, Tamblyn is given a realistic shot due to factors of buzz, freshness and youth (the Emmys love to honor young talent).

Of Tamblyn, "Joan" creator-executive producer Barbara Hall exults, "Amber is incredible. We always knew that if we didn't have someone who truly embodies Joan's soul, the show just wouldn't work. The whole conceit relies on her being believable and sympathetic as a real teenager; Amber did that during our first season amazingly well."

Of course, any journey to the Emmy podium will have to go through "Sopranos" lead Falco, who, like co-star Gandolfini, is a three-time winner and five-time nominee. In fact, Falco has become such an Emmy darling that it's difficult to imagine her losing; she probably won't. But if she does, Tamblyn appears the likely alternative.

Janney also can't be ruled out for "West Wing," if for no other reason than she has been nominated for five consecutive years and won three (two as a supporting player, one as lead actress). But the overall nose dive of her show in terms of cachet hurts Janney's chances.

That leaves Garner, nominated for a third consecutive year for "Alias" and a Golden Globe winner for the role in 2002. But as there is zero buzz now emerging from her ABC drama, Garner's chances of pulling off an upset here figure to be slim at best.

dukesmom , thanks for posting that article. It's always good to see what others think about the nominees chances.

Only a few days now until the winners are announced. Do we know if any L&O cast members are planning on attending the ceremony?

Not sure.

But, I would think that Mariska would definitely be there, since she's nominated. There'll probably be others from the SVU cast there, as well, to support her.

I'm really looking forward to the show. Especially the drama categories since that's where all the shows I watch are at.

I'm excited for the Emmys, too. Even if Mariska doesn't win, it's still cool that she was nominated. They're on Sunday, right?

And the verdict is in...no trophies for L&O. Maybe next year.
I didn't really watch the Emmys, but I did peek in a few times and caught Mariska on stage to announce something and then again when Allison Janney won and requested Mariska and the other nominees to join her.

Mariska looked gorgeous at the Emmy Awards.

Too bad she didn't win, though.

Mariska looked pretty - I liked her hair. It was so cute the way she was talking about marriage being so great in the part before the show started.
