Well, I think Shyamalan came up with the story first, and just figured out the twist later.
He said he took inspiration from The Birds and Night of The Living Dead, but he may have also taken influence from Steven Spielberg's undeveloped sci-fi horror script, Night Skies, which ended up getting scrapped and elements of the script ended up getting adapted into Poltergeist, Gremlins, and E.T. The Extra Terrestrial. __________________
