The first two had the virtue of Tim Burton's style and artistry. They aren't really my thing, but I can see the second in particular is a triumph of style. But the third and fourth Batman films were horrible. Jim Carrey at his '90s worst, Tommy Lee Jones shaming himself, Uma Thurman being revolting, Val Kilmer massively miscast, George Clooney being smug as usual, Chris O'Donnell being an unbearable young dork. At least Alicia Silverstone was good. And Schwarzenegger was fun if not exactly Oscar-worthy.

I liked the first Burton Batman film, sum1. But I didn't like the second one because it really got too silly. And Burton's imagination didn't really fit Batman for me. It was more Beetlejuice/Edward Scissorhands/The Nightmare Before Christmas than Gotham City and the world of DC Comics. But you're totally right about the Schumacher Batman films. They were an insult. I really wanted WB to do something more like Gotham back in the 90's.

The problem with Gotham is you've got wimpy kids supposedly growing up into Batman and co. It isn't convincing.

I love Gotham. I think it's one of the shows that becomes better as it goes along and season 4 (the recent one) was the best one yet.
Also, I love X-Men movie, the first one! |

Thanks for the links, LightYears! That title is debatable, but thanks.
Hi, Tia! I love Gotham too! I still wish it were more about Bruce Wayne, but I'm almost finished season 4 and it's getting really good. Not such a fan of the first X-Men, though. __________________

The first X-Men film did really start the modern age of superhero movies.

I guess, but it was still a bit rough around the edges. It should've been more like First Class.

It was still rough around the edges because it was the first of a new breed of superhero films.

Yeah, I understand. But I still think it could've been better. Screenwriter David Hayter was working from an old script that I heard was originally based on the old Wolverine script that had been floating around Hollywood throughout the 1990's. I remember reading about it, and it was a Wolverine origin story that would end with him meeting the X-Men and joining them in the finale. It seemed like they just shortened the origin part(and put the rest of it into X-2), and expanded on the X-Men part. I wish they had made a film that was more evenly spread out between the characters.

I understand, sum1. I just would've liked it if the story had been spread around more evenly among the other characters, that's all. I think they could've done a stand alone Wolverine movie for most of that stuff and have it link into the X-Men movies.

What they did worked. The thing to do would be to make it longer or to expand on other characters in the later 2 films.

I don't think they could've made it longer, sum1. This was 2000 and Fox would've been unwilling to make a 3 hour X-Men film. I think it would've been better if they had put most of that other stuff in a stand alone Wolverine film and spread the X-Men movie more evenly across the other characters. Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, and Iceman didn't get nearly enough time compared to Wolverine and Rogue.
