I'm afraid I have to agree with sum1. Avatar was greatly overrated, mostly for its 3-D effects. But it was derivative and pretentious.

I'd have preferred that James Cameron had done an adaptation of Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers instead of Avatar. Cameron would've done a better job than Verhoeven.

No he wouldn't have. Starship Troopers is a very rightwing book and Cameron is very leftwing.

PhoenixRising 11-09-2019 06:03 PM

Well, Cameron was apparently a big fan of Starship Troopers, along with other works of Heinlein. Starship Troopers was part of Cameron's inspiration for Aliens, and he had Michael Biehn and the other actors playing Colonial Marines read Starship Troopers as part of their preparation.

Aliens was such a badass film, love those Colonial Marines! :woot: :woot: :woot:

Bill Paxton was so annoying in that film.

I agree! :D

I know, sum1. You're not a fan.

I definitely would've wanted a better version of Starship Troopers. I'd have combined Heinlein's Starship Troopers novel with an earlier novel of his, Space Cadet. Starship Troopers by itself reads more like a manifest than a story, as it's mostly narration and descriptions. Space Cadet has more of a story arc for the protagonist.

Better than people say it was.

Ah haven’t heard anyone’s opinion

The movie was in the middle for me. Definitely not as bad as people said and not the worst X Men film (still goes to X Men The Last Stand and Wolverine: Origins. This is better than those films) but it also could of been better and it is a lackluster ending to the film series. In general, it's disappointing they flubbed the Dark Phoenix Saga twice, it is one of my favorite X Men Stories and cause of that, I doubt if anyone every touches this story again anytime soon.

That in general that they failed the story again  I don’t know comics and only refreshing my memory now on the cartoons  so overall I can only base Phoenix on the awful job of Last Stand

PhoenixRising 11-16-2019 04:20 PM

Well, if the film had done the Shi'ar storyline instead of the Skrull wannabes, it might've been better. It's not the kind of storyline you can do in one film.

Check out X Men TAS. I forgot that they are the only ones to do both Phoenix Sagas right, so I'm glad I have that.

finally watched this tonight (just finished) and I found it to be pretty good

it did have a bit of a TV quality to it but some of the SFX scenes were really good and made me wish I had watched this on the big screen

thought the actress who played young Jean was really good with her acting especially her last scene

I know Sophie Turner studied mental disorders before this movie and I thought she did well portraying that

I actually admit that I haven’t seen Last Stand so I had nothing to compare it to

was reminded of Men in Black 2 at times
