They were originally the Philadelphia Quakers.

No, Quaker Oats was founded in Ohio, and their current headquarters is in Chicago, Illinois.

They drink after the game. They're called the Milwaukee Brewers because the city of Milwaukee is known for its beer brewing industry. I told you that many of these old MLB baseball teams and NFL football teams are named after whatever their respective cities were known for.

The Pittsburg Steelers are so named because of the steel manufacturing industry in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Dallas Cowboys, because Dallas, Texas is known for having cowboys. The San Francisco 49ers are named after the 1849 California gold rush that made San Francisco a boomtown and coined the phrase, "miner '49er." And I already told you that the Green Bay Packers were named after a meat packing company based in Green Bay, Wisconsin that the Packers founder, Curly Lambeau, worked for, and they gave the Packers the money for uniforms and equipment when they were first formed.

The Seattle Mariners because Seattle is the biggest seaport on the west coast. The Seattle Seahawks named because... well, again, Seattle is a seaport. The Miami Dolphins because Miami, Florida, has a lot of dolphins swimming off the coast. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers because of stories about pirates that sailed the Gulf of Mexico and used Tampa, Florida as a port, although many say that was a myth. The Tampa Bay Lightning because Florida gets a lot of storms, and lightning is known for hitting the ground quite often in Tampa. The Tampa Bay Rays because stingrays are also common in the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico.

The New England Patriots because New England, and Boston, Massachusetts in particular, was where the American Revolution started, along with Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. And of course, the Philadelphia Eagles because Philadelphia is where the USA was born, and the American Bald Eagle is the official symbol of the USA. The Philadelphia 76ers because the USA was founded in 1776 with the signing of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Houston Astros because Houston, Texas is where the NASA Space Center and Johnson Space Center are located. The New Orleans Saints because New Orleans, Louisiana is where Mardi Gras is held, and one of the popular Mardi Gras songs is "When The Saints Go Marching In," because it was also a very religious city. The Kansas City Chiefs because Missouri and Kansas were home to the plains Indians. The Minnesota Vikings because of the heavy Scandinavian immigrant population in Minnesota, along with much of the Midwest. Minnesota Twins because of the "Twin Cities" of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. The New York Mets because New York is a metropolis. The New York Yankees because... well, the people of the northern states were called "Yankees."

Now, some team names don't match their location for various reasons, usually due to the teams relocating from somewhere else. The Los Angeles Lakers were originally from Minnesota, where they have a lot of lakes. The Lakers moved to L.A., which doesn't have lakes, but the name stuck.
