Sunny, to get a good photo of the black cat, I would have to have taken it from the other side of the window, but on that day the glare and reflections were bad on that side.

We went for coffee somewhere new - well, new to me at least, last week. It's a gorgeous, quirky bar and restaurant just across the road from Costa, which is where we usually go. I want to get photos of the bar when I have my SLR camera with me - hopefully on our next visit.

I love the combination of wooden tabletops, ornate mirrors (or frames anyway) and wallpapered wall.

Thanks. I forgot to mention the bar/restaurant is called The Escapologist, and the paintings in the frames are of dogs in suits. I'll ask the barman if it's OK for me to take some photos of the place, including those paintings. I always ask first before photographing cafe/pub/restaurant interiors and explain that I use photos in my artwork.

It's good that you have that thoughtfulness to ask before you take pictures. In a way, we could hope everyone would be like that, but I also understand how a person could simply not realize that it's the thing to do. So good for you. I'm not surprised to find out you're as thoughtful in this as you are in everything else.

Practically speaking, I have a sneaky suspicion that being upfront about your wish to take pictures probably gets you more positive responses than a person who just barged in would receive. Respect engenders respect, after all. Obviously, people who have strong opinions about no one taking pictures aren't more likely to say yes. But, for the rest...

OK, I was onboard with dog paintings in ornate frames... but I wasn't expecting something of that quality!

That's awesome. It seems like a lovely place to hang out. I hope the ambience lives up to the looks of the place.

Yes, we really like the paintings. The restaurant also has escape rooms, hence the name of the place. My builder told me the food's great, so my friend and I might have a meal there at some point.

As for the ambience it was nice and relaxing, with lots of things to look at. We were the only people in there though. It was a bit early, so I imagine it gets busy later, especially around lunch time.

Escape rooms are something I want to try at some point, though I have no idea how that will ever happen because that would imply getting a team together.

I've never tried escape rooms. I don't know much about them, but I don't think it would be something I would want to do. I saw a horror film once about escape rooms, which wasn't very encouraging!

Well, yeah, I expect the horror-movie version is probably not very encouraging.

I just like solving riddles and logic puzzles. I've played a lot of escape-room games online and that was fun.
