The Kardashians are just so weird to me. It's a heck of a way to live isn't it? To be famous... because you're famous. And for literally no other reason. I'm sure they all work very hard at... whatever it is they do. I don't want to diminish that. But it's all so... I don't know.

I mean, it's not like my life is so profoundly meaningful either. So who am I to judge, I suppose?

But they're as good an example as any of my "issue" with celebrity. Everyone knows who the Kardashians are. I don't think any of us truly know them, though. Life is a performance for them. So how can you know anything that matters? I just don't understand how you can sustain a crush on someone based on looks or fame alone, you know?

I understand your celebrity crush on Tom. You've met him. He's been a genuine and a genuinely nice person to you, (And, obviously, you don't need me to understand it for it to be worthwhile.)

In a similar vein, I could crush on George Clooney. Except he's never done anything for me physically. But I really admire his intelligence, his sense of humour and his integrity. This is the aura he gives out. What do the Kardashians give out?

livstevi21 07-14-2022 08:06 AM

Yeah, it sure is. I just feel it's all so superficial, not to mention self absorbed. I guess I shouldn't be so judgy myself but I can't stand people who put themselves out there just to become rich and famous and for nothing else. It's worse when they become reality TV stars where I could care less about wanting to know about their lives and wonder why anyone would be fascinated by watching those shows. Though I suppose what they put on TV is a somewhat performance than how they live privately, not that they have much of a private life deliberately putting themselves out there like that showing the public their lives. And yet I still know who they are because of TV and social media advertisement. I totally agree with you, I don't understand how someone can sustain a crush on a celebrity based on fame and looks alone either. Film and TV actors on the other hand, do an actual job. I'm not saying reality 'stars' like the Kardashians don't work hard at what they do, but considering they're so rich they don't really need to work a real hard day's job in their life.

There's no denying I first crushed on Tom based on his looks, how can you not? But as I got to 'know' him more and more over the years, reading stories from his co-stars and other fans, watching his interviews and more recently at the comic con panels, I found that he also has great integrity, an awesome sense of humour and is also intelligent. And of course, getting to meet him in person showed me how genuinely nice a person he really is.

sunnykerr 07-14-2022 05:31 PM

Yeah. Obviously, even the Kardashians are people, too. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that they're people first and foremost.

I just think that, for a celebrity crush, they're a bit of an empty object, you know? And I think they probably have more private life than we realize since however long an episode of their show is, that's hardly the whole of their lives. Obviously, they shoot more than they show, but even then, there must be periods when the camera isn't there. The problem is that their work is... their life as a performance.

 Some day they'll die like the rest of us. I'm not saying like it's something I'm wishing for or actively waiting for. I'm just saying we're all the same at the end of the day, not matter how much time we spend in front of a camera or not.

There's nothing better to form a crush than having someone be kind to you. At least, that's how I used to start crushes back when I had more of those. Kindness is a powerful aphrodisiac for me.

That’s why I SO rarely admire or even like people or actors I see in entertainment cause usually they are shallow and want fame, not true artists of their craft or sometimes even reallly truly talented in acting. (They just play a form of themselves)

Truly, there are only 3 people I’ve realized I’ve had true crushes in the “Hollywood” biz on even tho I don’t know them personally and just from what I’ve seen. And the only two things that can make me fall in love is 1. Sincerity in their personality… which you can see when it’s pure. 2. They are actually talented in their career of choice, which means they have really worked hard to become good at their art. I’m going to share an example of what I mean in this YT clip… I mean, I don’t feel any fakeness from her in what she’s saying and her aura..

And yes, my current crush is not weakening, it just keeps growing the more I see and hear from her because those 2 things apply. :thud:

Exactly, and Stephanie Beatriz has actually been kind to me through liking my comments and even once telling me to check google when I was hoping she would do horror and she was signed on to do one. She cared enough to tell me to make my day and even included an emoji… I mean, she didn’t have to bother… ugh.

sunnykerr 07-26-2022 05:28 PM

 I have a weird thing about actors who play versions of themselves all the time. When Tom Cruise does it, it makes me heave. When George Clooney does it, I am delighted and charmed. So sometimes it works (for me) and sometimes it doesn't. And I have no idea why that is or what makes that difference.

I'm just happy she brings you joy. :) That's amazing.

reason to believe 07-26-2022 06:03 PM

Ha, Sunny, you know what I’m talking about, plus you bring up exactly a weird thing I noticed about me too. Sometimes when the actor is good at playing themselves in roles, it is cause they have natural likability and charisma that they can pull that off. Like George Clooney has natural CHARM. Tom Cruise doesn’t (to me)

And I notice that certain things I don’t typically enjoy in general, with certain people, I DO like it but just with them!  Like I don’t enjoy the strong “Southern U.S.” accent, but with a certain actor who is from Georgia, I love the way it sounds for him, and him only, I like it. With Stephanie, she’s such a real “girly girl” type (and speaks kinda “valley girl-ish”) and I always thought I didn’t like that type of female, cause I’m not at all, more like a tomboy, but with her and only her, I like it  Go figure!!!

But its funny you point that out. Cause its true!

Yes, I am so happy someone can make me feel this level of Cloud 9 and good mood and that if I am in a sad mood, I have clips and B99 to watch and I will laugh or feel love seeing her

sunnykerr 07-27-2022 05:35 PM

I think you hit the nail on the head. If the person has charisma or exudes charm or anything *positive*, it works. When that person is dead inside, it doesn't work.

 Sorry. I really don't like Tom Cruise. That's my issue, not anyone else's. Anyone out there who likes him, I mean you no shade whatsoever.

But there are a lot of actors (and actresses) who usually play versions of themselves. I think it depends on how you feel about them then.

And I think, like you with Stephanie being a girly girl or the deep Southern drawl of that other actor, when you like an actor, things that would irritate on someone you don't love suddenly work for you. I don't have an example of my own... but I hope you understand what I mean.

reason to believe 07-28-2022 10:21 PM

Yeah, I understand.

Actually I’m quite intrigued about the psychology of how you can like something for one certain person that for everything else you don’t like it. I’ll look up and see if I can read any psychology on that!

sunnykerr 07-30-2022 07:20 AM

I'd be interested in what you find.

I think sometimes we're just random?

I mean, why are we friends with certain people and not others? Obviously, some people are just anathema to who we are and we'll never be friends. But for the rest... Everyone has qualities and everyone has flaws. So how do we "pick" those who will stick?

Ropetuned 08-06-2022 08:32 PM

I don’t have a crush in the traditional sense, but if I was female it’d be this guy:

One of the most normal and friendly people you’ll ever meet and I find something endearing that he doesn’t have any social media and is incredibly modest even though women throw themselves at him

Charlie Hunnam!

sunnykerr 08-06-2022 09:30 PM

I liked him in Nicholas Nickleby. :)

So I’m currently watching “Community” and Joel McHale is pinging my senses a bit as the lead guy. Not Stephanie levels here, but he’s kind of cute and it’s working on me a bit.

sunnykerr 08-16-2022 06:11 PM

I don't know much about Joel McHale, but I like what I do know. :) He seems genuinely funny and mostly normal.

I mean that in the nicest possible way. These are qualities I value. :)

reason to believe 08-24-2022 03:24 PM

Yeah, I have no idea how he is in RL, but, man, he is a cutie!! And so is Donald Glover too in the same show. His fake crying is adorable  I need to see what they both are like as their real selves.

Meanwhile, Stephanie remains my ray of sunshine daily.

sunnykerr 08-24-2022 04:22 PM

I've seen Donald Glover in The Martian, in which he was pretty adorable. That's the extent of my knowledge of any of those fellows.

reason to believe 11-12-2022 04:33 PM

I feel like I need to be talked down to return to being rational. there is an “auction” for a charity zoom call for 30 minutes with Stephanie Beatriz (and one of her co-stars from B99). So did I mention that one, she’s my crush and two, it’s my most favourite show ever??

It ends tomorrow and I feel like no price is too high to get 30 minutes to talk to her (despite the co-star also being there) and I feel like I might actually bid a ridiculous amount for this. :embarrassment: Probably someone else will pay more and save me from a chunk of change….

Edit: too late, I did it, I’m crazy and I have 23 hours for someone else crazier than me to outbid me  Its for charity and if I win a call with her, its worth it.

sunnykerr 11-14-2022 09:32 AM

If you can afford it, bidding was never going to be a bad idea. :)

I'm crossing my fingers for your, Leanne. But, yeah, either way, you did a good deed.

reason to believe 11-14-2022 10:20 AM

I somehow won. This is going to happen in the future for me, half an hour with me and her (and Joe :look:). Unreal! I have to process the reality me and her will be face to face having our own talk. :thud:

And I kept my bid under my limit and I’m helping a charity that builds specialised housing for severely wounded veterans.

sunnykerr 11-15-2022 03:00 PM

:woot: :woot: I'm so happy for you!

It was never gonna be a bad idea since it was all for a good cause and you could afford your bid.

But how awesome that you'll get to talk to her. If it helps you calm down, you could jot down a couple of topics you know you're both interested in... Maybe the wounded veteran thing is something you know about? There has to be a reason why she picked that charity, right?

Honestly, though, I think it'll be awesome. Just focus on enjoying it while it's happening.

reason to believe 01-10-2023 01:54 PM

Well, the moment has arrived this Thursday, I'll actually be talking with Stephanie Beatriz and Jo Lo Truglio from Brooklyn 99! I'm so excited but I basically got the date today so I have to be ready for this in just 2 days, Time to prepare my questions or subjects, cause as soon as they are really in front of my face, I'm gonna forget everything.

sunnykerr 01-10-2023 06:10 PM

I'm so happy for you! You have to come back and tell us all about it. :)

But, seriously, you'll be fine. Try and listen to what they're saying. That's what you want to remember.

Enigma 01-10-2023 07:27 PM

That's awesome. Let us know how it goes!

sunnykerr 01-11-2023 05:49 PM

I've been excited for you, thinking about it. :)

reason to believe 01-12-2023 01:32 AM

Only like 10 hours til! But whose counting at midnight?

I’m excited too, it still won’t be real until I see them in the same screen as me though. :P

sunnykerr 01-12-2023 06:07 PM

I can't wait to hear back!
