I'd say if I had to make a list he probably would have been in my top 5 actors for the part (I liked Gaspard and Tom best), so I'm OK with this. At least he can act.

For me this is horrible casting. Edward is supposed to be stunning, beautiful etc and this guy looks dirty and messy. I wasn't one of those "OMGZ IT HAS TO BE GASPARD OR I'LL DIE" fan!girls but come on, someone a little bit pretty would do me fine, there are thousands of new actors that can act and be pretty.

Hahahaha yeah I use to be one of those fan girls than I was like eh, as long as he can play Edward I'm ok with it. But really I don't think he's that bad looking...

I'm okay with Robert playing Edward. I think he is a decent actor and he can definitely act.

I'm sorry the original post here was so terse! I got the call that I was allowed to post the news literally two minutes before I had to leave for an appointment. I just got home and I've been reading through some of the commentary around the fandom about Robert Pattinson.

I want you to know that I am really very pleased about this choice. Robert hasn't been one of the popular fan choices whose faces pop up on my comments page all the time, so I'd never really thought about him in the role before. When I got the news, it took me a little while to consider it (like a lot of you, I was pretty attached to the first person I'd cast in my head as Edward, so I had to readjust for a minute). I looked at all the pictures I could find, finally got around to watching HP4 (which I own, but had never seen before), and I read through the script picturing Robert in the role.

By the time I was done with my research (writing: a line of work where you can legitimately call drooling over hot boys "research."), I was kind of shocked that I'd never considered Robert before. Aside from my dearest Henry, Robert is truly the first person I've pictured in the role who I think can pull it off. The boy just looks like a vampire.

Also, I hear very encouraging things from the people who watched his auditions. They've been at this for months now, you know, reading Edward hopefuls day after day. Robert knocked their socks off; once he read for the part, the search was over. In other good news, apparently there is excellent chemistry between Robert and Kristen (they have all the major actors read together to make sure they fit), his American accent is flawless, AND he's read all three novels!

So YAY! for Robert Pattinson!

I think he will do a good job of playing Edaward.

*nods head in agreement* Ed is love. I absolutely adore him as Chuck. And I love Chuck with Blair. Lol!

The Edward casting news caught me by surprise. Not what I expected at all. I like Robert but as Edward............he just doesn't look like Edward to me at all. But what I can believe is him and Kristen having good chemistry. They look like they would be good together.

Hm... I guess I'll have to re-watch HP4. Not entirely sure about him being cast as Edward yet, but I'm with Mel in thinking that Kristen and Robert could have great chemistry

Exactly how I feel. I'm a little thrown off by him, but hey they look good together.

I'm not a Harry Potter fan at all so I hadn't even heard of Robert until he was announced as Edward. I kinda like him. There was no way Gaspard was getting the part, being too old and too French so I never really had him in my head. Honestly, I'm just glad it wasn't someone like Zac Efron
