Tuck Everlasting vs. Twilight
I was dwelling on the reason why I have a major love for the twilight series. Then I made a connection. Tuck Everlasting was my favorite book when i was in elementary and middle school, I read that book over and over again. I loved the story. (spoiler alert)Tuck Everlasting was about a family (Tucks) that drank from a spring that made them live forever, which they found this to be a curse. There was a girl named Winne who was around ten who found out about the spring which brought her unwantingly close to the Tucks because of them protecting her from this spring. Well Winne became infatuated with Jesse (the 17 year old boy). This relationship grew and Jesse asked her to drink of this spring when she became 17 for them to be together forever. I won't give away the ending but just to give you guys a generalization of the story. Tuck and Twilight have some similarity's but major differences. For one the family, the Tucks found living forever as a burden, a curse and would not wish it on anyone they were very clear on that fact. The Cullen's didn't have major issues on living forever as the Tucks did but they also have restraints on giving others the same life they lived. Second Edward vs. Jesse, Jesse had the same restraints as his family but with his love for Winne made him truly want her in his life forever and basically left it up to Winne to decide if she wanted the same life as him. In Edwards case he did not want Bella to become a vampire, he wanted her to have a normal life, but Bella constantly tries to push him to change her. Third is the relationships. Jesse and Winne a was a great dynamic but I saw it as more of a crush not a major undeniable connection that Edward and Bella had. Bella is so in love with Edward that the whole world means nothing and no one matters but him. The Twilight series is what connected me to my roots of my love of literature, because Tuck Everlasting is what got me to love reading. Well I'm new to this forum but I just decide to express my feeling towards the series.

I agree I was obessed with that book when I was little and still am! It is such a wonderful and powerful story.
I think that might be the second book Stephanie Meyer based Breaking Dawn on. __________________

I love Tuck Everlasting, the book is amazing, the movie is great.
And I was just thinking that TE might be the second book too..but if it BD ends the same way...I will flip out and destroy the world. Okay, not really...but I'd be sad. Very, very sad. |

marsh90, those are wonderful observations in comparing TU and Twilight! I never knew that that movie was really about, and its nice to finally! I think it is these kind of stories that captivate followers because they both border on realistic situations in life, but have a touch of impossibility (vampires, immortality). They aren't typical stories about life's dramas, they let you apply imagination to those real life situations and people like to read that.
Great job on noticing that. BTW, welcome to !! Hope you enjoy your time here. |

I to read TE when I was little and i two see the similarities and the differences. I also saw the movie with Alexis Bledel.
I think the difference with the book is that Winnie was 11 when she met Jesse so it was more of an infatuation where as Bella was seventeen and more mature |

i dont think you can really compare TE and twilight. the choice they make is important for each story but has to be different.
Winnie had to choose life in order to grow up. She was afraid of it. it was important for her to grow old and die. it was important to experience life as it is. with bella its the other way around. She already was grown up and never got to be a teenager until she met edward and fell in love. for her its important to break out of the 'real life'. she will only gain happyness by being with edward forever. growing old would be her emotional death. i like both stories though __________________
