Eclipse Book Discussion #1

I think we need this one to fill out the whole series;)

iamsher 01-31-2008 09:45 AM

At some point during Eclipse every single one of the main characters (Bella, Edward, Jacob) pissed me off. I found Bella to be a weak, whiny "child." I found Edward to be too "giving" and way too "understanding" (of course, this is after I got over him keeping Bella from the Tribe, though I understood his misdirected actions). Jacob just ticked me off to no end with his manipulation.

That being said, it was an excellent book.

I kinda hated that Edward didn't fight for her the way I hopes for:(
and I still believe you can NOt be in love with two guys, you can bot love them, but you can't be in love :rotfl:

I agree.
Eclipse is one of the few books that I really felt the need to throw it against a wall or to tear it apart. Some parts killed me. Jacob was so pissing me off with all his "come on, you love me, not him, i'm the better choice" talk. Edward did too when he just didn't do anything as Bella kissed Jacob. And well, Bella... she kissed Jacob... and she was engaged at that point. That's enough reason to be pissed off. But she really tried hard to be disliked. All her stupid whining and crying about this and that and everything. I didn't like that. But the books is still awesome .

Exactly!

At some point I was like 'enough about Jacob's pain already! We get it, he's in PAINNNN, let's move on to another topic please'.

What about people that are polyamorous? Polygamy has been around since the ancient times.

Well, you can't deny the existence of polyamory or polygamous relationships, but many don't believe that they are moral or logical. That aside, I agree with dirty twin - I don't believe you can be in love with more than one person at one time, and I really, really disliked both Jacob Black and this section of the book because of it. The rest of the book was so wonderful, but those pages totally ruined the rest for me.

I'm a very monogamous person and I don't believe you can be in love with more than one person at a time. But the keyword here is "believe" just because we don't believe something doesn't mean it's impossible.

Eclipse is my favorite book in the saga. But one thing that really pissed me off was Charlie nonchalance when Bella arrived at home with her hand broken. I get why he holds a grudge against Edward and why he prefers Jacob after New Moon. But his reaction there was just bizarre.

:) I'm one of the few who loved the book. The only character I wasn't too fond of in the book was Bella actually. She annoyed me enormously. :look:

ha! agreed.
-"hey dad, edward tried to kill himself because he thought i was dead so i had to go save him, sorry i disappeared for three days. no harm done though!"
-"WHAAAT! DON'T YOU EVER SEE HIM AGAIN, YOUNG LADY!"

-"hey dad, jacob basically molested me. he disrespected my choice, kissed me against my will so i punched him and broke my hand."
-:amused: "reeeeally? haha, that's great!" :smug:

it bothered me that Edward's so polite to him just so Charlie can be rude back to him.

I agree but I do think Charlie redeemed himself when he offered to teach Bella how to punch properly, because he didn't think anyone should be kissing her without her permission or something like that.

I was more upset that he laughed when Bella told him WHY her hand was broken. If someone forced themself on my child, I would NOT be laughing. Just a kiss or anything more.

If it was my child, Jacob wouldn't leave my house before receiving a earful from me. And I always expect fathers to take these kind of things worse than mothers. That's what makes me more appalled with Charlie.

He redeemed himself a little, because he should have said something to the boy too.

I bought this book mid December and just managed to finish it last week. In between uni readings it's been hard to fit in it. But I found I enjoyed it quite a lot. :D

I found myself more annoyed with Bella in New Moon. [Is there a discussion thread for that around?] :look:
