Richard became a hugely popular and successful pop/rock artist starting in 1987. His debut album scored 4 huge top 5 hits, "Don't Mean Nothing" (#3), "Should've Known Better" (#3), "Endless Summer Nights" (#2) and "Hold On To The Nights" (#1).

Richard ended the 80s with his 1989 album and 5 more hit singles - "Satisfied" (#1), "Angelia" (#1), "Right Here Waiting" (#1), "Too Late To Say Goodbye" (#12) and "Children of the Night" (#13). Richard made the history books to become the first solo artist to have his first 7 singles hit the top 5.

Richard continued with a string of hits in the early 90s ("Hazard", "Take This Heart", "Keep Coming Back", "Now and Forever", "The Way She Loves Me"). He ended up writing or co-writing a number of songs for artists like N'Sync ("This I Promise You"), Josh Groban ("To Where You Are"), Barbra Streisand, Vince Gill, Luther Vandross ("Dance With My Father"), Lionel Richie, Kenny Loggins and more.

i love all his music
how did we not have a thread for him before now?
i saw him years ago opening for lional richie. he was incredible. lional's plane was delayed so richard just stayed on stage singing more songs of his, songs he wrote for other people. did a few covers. lional only ended up singin for a half hour cuz we have a 11pm curfew downtown. but he was still great for the bit he performed. but richard just blew everyone away. he had so many great songs.
