About the Show

Small Wonder is an American science fiction sitcom that aired in first-run syndication from September 7, 1985 to May 20, 1989. The show chronicles the family of a robotics engineer who secretly creates a robot modeled after a human girl, then tries to pass it off as their adopted daughter.

The story lines revolve around V.I.C.I. (an acronym for Voice Input Child Identicant, pronounced "Vicki"), an android in the form of a 10-year-old girl. V.I.C.I. was built by Ted Lawson, an engineer/inventor for United Robotronics, in an effort to assist handicapped children. The robot is taken home by Lawson so that it can mature within a family environment. V.I.C.I.'s features include superhuman strength and speed, an AC outlet under her right arm, a serial port under her left arm, and an access panel in her back. Despite this, the Lawson family initially tries to pass V.I.C.I. off as an orphaned family member whom they eventually legally adopt as their daughter.

Yesterday I saw the ep where they had to adopt Vici.

They had to adopt her?

Yep, Mrs. Brindle turned them in because she found out Vici did not go to school. They came to invetigate.

Of course! I should of known the nosy neighbors had something to do with it.

They had to do a lot to adopt Vici.

What did they have to do?

They had to get a birth certificate.
They had to have a doctor examine her.

A doctor examine her? How exactly did that go? Surely a doctor must know a robot from a real human child!

They had Jamie dress up as Vici. Then the doctor looked in her throat and commented on her pretty eyelashes. The doctor conveniently got paged, so that was it. How lucky.

Lol. How lucky indeed! I can't imagine how that doctor even got a license if he couldn't tell it was a boy!

Anyone notice how whenever Ted says something complicated, Joan replies in a singy songy voice with "that makes sense."

That would not happen on TV now. Feminists would be all over them. Joan's reply always made it seems like she was a dumb wife.

I hadn't noticed until you said something. Lol. I can't quite say much since it has been a long time since I have seen it and I don't get the reruns anymore. But yeah, they would be complaining now.

I saw the ep where the adoption agent came to check on Vici. Vici still wasn't in school, so they got her a tutor.
