Santa Claus The Movie(1985) - Seeing Is Believing

Released in 1985, the producers behind the "Superman" films took on Santa Claus. The first part of the movie deals with how Santa came to be, and then takes off into an adventure when elf Patch(Dudley Moore), goes to New York, where he is used by an evil and corrupt toymaker (John Lithgow). Can Santa save the day and Christmas?.

I went to this as part of my 7th birthday party. It was magical. I'll never forget getting the little storybooks at McDonalds and the big picture book at the mall too. Lol. Not the greatest Christmas movie, but special to me and many others.

The Trailer :

This is actually the ONLY Christmas movie that's special to me. Except maybe "Home Alone". It was the first non-cartoon one I ever saw, and when I was about 6 or 7, I was deeply affected by the little girl who gives the homeless boy a plate of food. Hope I'm remembering that right. Eh, not too impressed with the trailer. It was such a comedy.

Yep, you got the right movie with the little girl and homeless boy. Lol. It doesn't get noticed a whole lot, but it was special and memorable to me. This was the big event for my 7th birthday. Anybody who wanted to stay after the party got to go to the movie.

Aww, that's sweet. I know I watched it on TV with my mom and dad, and continued to do so for a few years. I'm definitely watching again this Christmas, since I have the DVD.

Never knew about the promotional books or toys, lol.

Lol. Good times.

I got the DVD this year, so it will be my first time seeing it in quite a few years. I look forward to it!.

Yeah, there was some merchandise, although I don't think it turned out to be as big a hit as they expected. They had the big picture storybook that told the whole movie, and then McDonald's had little books that told the movie in chapters as part of the movie's promotional push. I think I got all of those. Lol. I still have them somewhere. Gonna have to dig them out.

I thought this had the best Santa's Workshop I have seen in a movie or special. I just loved it. The beds for the elfs!. It just all looked so warm and cozy. I wanted to live there. Lol.

I haven't watched it yet, but I did watch the 50 minute documentary from 1985 that comes with it. Fun stuff. It's sad knowing Dudley Moore is no longer with us. He seemed like a real nice guy.

It is. It also reminds me of our old mall before it was remodeled. I would go there to sit on Santa's lap and get the chapter books for this movie they were releasing. I think they had them at McDonald's too.
