I just re-watched that scene and he doesn't appear to yell anything else when he names the empress. When they originally mention that an earthling child needs to give the childlike empress a name, Bastian goes to the window to shut it and says something like "Too bad they don't ask me, I know what name I'd give her. My mother had such a beautiful name." But I don't believe his mother's name was ever mentioned in the movie.

It is also moonchild, in the book.

It's funny, because we (the people in my family) already knew what he screamed, but when we watched the movie with the captioning on, it just said something like "indistinguishable screming"

I first saw this movie in 1984 (God, that makes me feel old), and have probably seen it a million times since. It is a great movie, though the sequels were really a bit... Stupid.

I know. It was weird that he yelled it in three syllables instead of two, but it was still understandable to me. I wonder why the people who do the captions couldn't figure it out.

I'm not surprised they couldn't get it right because I was watching one of the presidential debates and we turned the captioning on and everything was spelled wrong....granted it was live and they were typing as the candidates were speaking, but if they can't type fast and accurately, they shouldn't have the job.
