"The Last Starfighter" is a 1984 film directed by Nick Castle("The Boy Who Could Fly"). It stars Lance Guest as Alex Rogan, a young guy living with his mother and little brother in a trailer park. Alex scores the highest points on a video game called Starfighter. Little did Alex know that the game was a test to find "the one" and to help the planet and it's people depicted in the game in real life against a nasty enemy named Xur. Catherine Mary Stewart("Weekend At Bernie's") and film legend Robert Preston("The Music Man") co-star.

This is a fun movie. You can see some vintage early Spielberg in some of the trailer park scenes, and can definitley sense some Star Wars in the outer space moments. It's just one of those 80s feel good sci-fi/fantasy movies. The movie was also one of the first, among with Disney's "Tron", to use CGI.

Hmm. It looks like it might have been good. I wasn't into video games as a kid, so I probably never saw it.

Well, that's okay. The video game was really only a tool to get Alex up in space to fight the bad guys. Lol. But it's in that cute, family friendly, 80s sci-fi way.

According to some actors' credit listings at IMDB, a sequel is being planned. Cool.

Barrybgb 02-12-2015 11:12 AM

It's Spielbergian in ways.

Melis 02-12-2015 10:16 PM

Oh that's cool.

The next to last picture in the OP is Spielbergian. Shadow and light.

Melis 02-13-2015 06:21 PM

I like it.

This movie was directed by Nick Castle. He played the original Michael Myers in the first "Halloween". He also directed "The Boy Who Could Fly".
