The 80's Of The 90's & Beyond!!!
I thought of this for a thread a few days ago. See what you think.
The early 90's, say '90, '91, and maybe even a little of '92 or so, still kind of seemed like 80's leftovers in a way. Early '90 movies like Gremlins 2, Back To The Future 3, and early '90's John Hughes movies like Home Alone, Home Alone 2, Dutch, and Curly Sue, all had that 80's vibe. 80's TV was still continuing on into the 90's(Growing Pains, Full House, The Cosby Show, Roseanne, and so on....), and some of the music was still very 80's(until grunge came in and took over). So, I thought this would be a fun thread to discuss any favorite movies of the 80's that continued with sequels into the 90's and beyond, or movies that were part of the early 90's that still seemed like the 80's. It could also be a place where you could talk about newer, more modern films that were about and took place in the 80's(The Wedding Singer, Kickin' It Old School, etc) and anything 80's that is going on today. |

Yeah, I thought they did incredibly well with all the details and picking the music and all that. TWS is a pretty good movie.

I like the movie 13 going on 30. The parts where the characters were kids contained very accurate glimpses back to life in the 80s.
I laugh every time I see the character Matt rock out to the song 'burning down the house' |

Oh I love this topic thanks for starting it. The wedding singer is one of my favorite movies that has that 80s theme to it. They did a great job with the styles and the music.

My Girl was a good movie. It's been a long time since I have seen it, but I think it was set in the 70's. Came out in 1991 I believe. Around there. Might of been '92.
I picked up Gremlins 2 a few weeks ago. Early 1990 movie, but made in 1989. Lol. |

There is a new movie coming out in March called "Adventureland", and it is set during the summer of 1987. It looks great.
It looks like a funny, zany, teen comedy with a "coming of age" tinge to it. It's about a kid who gets a dead end summer job working at a local amusement park(Adventureland)where, according to other sites I have read, he befriends the colorful workers and finds true love. A poster on another site saw it at a film festival and said that it is directed by the director of "Superbad", but that it has a lot more heart and emotion than that film. They gave it a really good review. The website for the film has cool 80's music blaring. Lol. It co-stars Kristen Stewart("Twilight") and Ryan Reynolds. |

A review for Adventureland at Ain't It Cool News was very glowing, and mentioned John Hughes a few times.
First Off : It's set in 1987, but it's not a nostalgia trip. It doesn't beat you over the head with "Hey!, we're in the 80's!". It just happens to be set in 1987, and it's very subtle. Here's where Hughes comes in : The review mentioned how the writer/director Greg Motola, had his Sixteen Candles with Superbad, and this film is a complete 180 from that film. Sweet, funny, and with real heart and genuine people. He said this movie was Motola's "Pretty In Pink". |
