Trock- A discussion on the music of Doctor Who
Trock, or, Time Lord Rock, is a wave of music started by YouTube partner Nerimon and his band Chameleon Circuit. Styles of music can vary from hard-rock to acoustic, but the underlying theme is the adventures of Doctor Who, or, most recently, the Tenth Doctor, as portrated by David Tennant. Trock is a musical wave similar to Wizard Rock, based on the Harry Potter book series, and mirrors the idea that fans of the series can create musical fusion in their bedrooms with just a guitar or keyboard, and then post it on YouTube. Trock through the years First example of Trock was back in 1973 when the Doctor himself, Jon Pertwee, released a single I Am The Doctor In 1985, Michael Grade took over as director of the BBC and immidiately put Doctor Who on an 18 month hiatus (Mostly cos he didn't like the progamme). Fans were outraged and under the name Who Cares, a bunch of Z-List celebrities joined forces with Colin Baker (the Sixth Doctor), Nicola Bryant (companion Peri Brown), Nicholas Courtney (recurring character Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart) and Anthony Ainley (the Master) to produce a song called Doctor in Distress in the hope of bringing Doctor Who back. It was brought back but not due to the song which is frankly terrible but funny so here it is: Four years later came, arugably, the most famous Doctor Who song. Doctorin' The Tardis by the Timelords went to no.1 in the UK Charts which is quite astounding: In recent years there has been a revival in Doctor Who songs, with it being given the genre Trock for the first time, thanks to Chamelion Circuit: Other examples of Trock: Doctor Who Is In Time by Paul and Stephen Hone: The Brig Can't Help You Now, he's in Geneva (In tribute to Nicholas Courtney) Five Rounds Rapid- another tribute to Nicholas Courtney And of course Doctor Who's very own Murray Gold's Song for Ten: Hope you enjoy these and post your favourites- there are thousands on youtube- or if you think one of your favourite songs fits a particular bit in Doctor Who please post it :) |
