Watched this ep again this weekend.

I find the plot of the ep a bit silly (using the extrapolator to surf away from the destruction of the Earth), but there were some great character moments, with all the stuff with the Doctor, Jack, Rose and Mickey working together. And there were a few important continuity points, like the Doctor finally noticing all the Bad Wolf references, someone looking into the heart of the TARDIS, establishing the location of the Rift at Roald Dahl Plass, and of course, the extrapolator.

Classic series-wise, I believe this was the first ep in the new series where the Doctor explained that the TARDIS looked like a police box due to a malfunctioning chameleon circuit.

I just answered my own question

Must watch this one sometime soon

Also are we going to have threads for all the first season episodes? I know I'd like to write what I thought when I do get to watch them.

Before S4, we discussed 1x01-1x10. There's a list of all the episode review threads in the board guide thread.

Been to busy with work to actually look around for stuff. :/

Thanks

I love Boomtown, I love the easy feeling about the ep.

I remember the first time I watched it I found it a bit boring. But now I mostly see it as a fun ep, yes it is a little silly. But I love the "Team-feeling" about it.

Agreed; it's fun, it's silly and it introduces vital concepts for the future, including the premise for Torchwood, the compassion for the Slitheen (exploited further in the SJA), and the heart of the Tardis. I also found a second viewing helped to let it grow on me.

I just saw this episode for the first time today and I really loved it. I finally liked Mickey and I loved seeing a few episodes with Jack involved (haven't watched Torchwood, but I've heard so much about it). Can't wait to watch the rest of series one now. Thanks for Sci-Fi for having a marathon yesterday that started right where I ended.

I think the plot is not the most important in this episode. Some said it already..It is this team feeling. I love the scene in the bistro with all of them. And of course the face of Mickey when the others explaind to him why they were in Cardiff...

"..through time and space" I love this quote and the conected scene

I love that word! I find myself saying it a hell of a lot more than you would expect from anyone! I just realised this is the episode where Jack and Mickey meet which was something i forgot about iot Journey's End.. Im happier that ties up now, it was annoying me! This episode was cool and i love the SJA link that it has created

Yeah, I love this episode a whole lot it might not have the most amazing plot that ever existed, but it's such a fun episode and some important developments are made.

And yes, it has so many fun, feel-good moments. Like the whole bit in the beginning, with the "Into TIME! And SPACE!" which I adore, and the whole scene in the restaurant where they're just laughing and enjoying themselves so much... And when they keep teleporting Margaret back and yes of course they Raxacoricofallapatorius bit..
