David Tennant was born David John McDonald in West Lothian,
Scotland, to a father who was a Presbyterian minister. When he was about 3
or 4 years old, he decided to become an actor, inspired by his
love of the BBC show "Doctor Who."

He was brought up in Bathgate, West Lothian and Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland
and was a huge fan of the band The Proclaimers. He attended Paisley Grammar
school and while there he wrote about how he wanted to become a professional
actor and play the role of the Doctor in "Doctor Who."

He made his first television appearance (which was also his first professional
acting job) when he was 16, after his father sent some photos of him to a
casting director at Scottish television. He also attended a youth theatre group
at weekends run by the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD -
now renamed the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland [RCS]). When he was 16
he auditioned for and won a place at the RSAMD; the youngest student to ever
do so, and started as a full time drama student when he was 17.

He worked regularly in theatre and TV after leaving drama school, and his first
big break came in 1994 when he was cast in a lead role in the Scottish drama
"Takin' Over the Asylum." He then moved to London where his career thrived.
Amongst other things, he spent several years as a member of the Royal
Shakespeare Company, and became famous from his lead roles in
TV dramas "Blackpool" and "Casanova."

In 2005, his childhood wish came true. David was cast to play the role of
the Doctor in the BBC'S new series of "Doctor Who" alongside Billie Piper,
after Christopher Eccleston decided to leave. Playing the Doctor made
him a household name. Since leaving Doctor Who in 2010 his career
has continued to rise, with lead roles in films, TV series and theatre.

Even though I don't personally like the decision to bring back Tennant, it is paying off dialogue from Tom Baker's The Curator in The Day of the Doctor.

There is also a part of me that is curious about where the road we're now on will take us, which is why I decided not to abandon my Pilgrimage (despite briefly considering doing so in my outrage).

I assume there’s a reason why Ncuti Gatwa was in the promo for the November specials.

Possibly the Doctor’s true next incarnation is stuck somewhere, while something went wrong with the regeneration. And it will all be fixed by the end. At least I hope so.

^ To me, the fact that RTD has explicitly identified the Tennant Doctor 2.0 as being the Fourteenth Doctor and Ncuti Gatwa as being the Fifteenth Doctoris a clear rejection of the idea that this is a regeneration gone wrong, especially when you take into account the following four things:
1) Romana I regenerating into a form physically identical to that of the still-living Princess Astra (Destiny of the Daleks)

2) The 5th Doctor regenerating into a form physically identical to that of the still-living Commander Maxil (The Caves of Androzani)

3) The Curator telling the 11th Doctor that they (the Doctor) will eventually start regenerating into bodies bearing the physical likenesses of older incarnations of themselves (The Day of the Doctor)

3) The 11th Doctor regenerating into a form physically identical to that of Lobus Caecilius (The Time of the Doctor)

And those times he regenerated into familiar faces like Maxil and Caecilius he still wore the same clothes as his previous incarnation. This time that didn’t happen. Something is not right this time and that’s obvious.

If the clothes weren’t a give away to that, then Gatwa’s Doctor asking “what the hell is going on here” in the promo should have been.

Personally, though, I'm not seeing a compelling reason to automatically assume that this is a regeneration gone wrong based on the things that we know.

Also, Ncuti is wearing the Fourteenth Doctor's shirt and tie in the brief glimpse that is shown of him, which, for me, is an argument against the idea that something went wrong with Thirteen's regeneration based solely on the 'clothes have never regenerated before' thing.
