Donna says "I do!" (link)

Catherine Tate accepts proposal to star in fourth series.

Catherine Tate is set to return to the TARDIS for the complete 13 week run of Series Four of Doctor Who.

Award winning comedian Tate will reprise her role as Donna, the runaway bride from last year's Christmas special, despite turning down the Doctor's invitation to travel with him at the end of that adventure.

When Catherine was asked if she would like to become The Doctor's new companion at the press screening of The Runaway Bride, she replied, "I would love to, but no one has asked!" Well, now they have.

"Catherine was an absolute star in The Runaway Bride and we are delighted that one of Britain's greatest talents has agreed to join us for the fourth series," announced Doctor Who's executive producer and head writer, Russell T Davies. "Viewers can expect more ambitious storylines and a whole host of guest stars in 2008."

Catherine Tate added : "I am delighted to be returning to Doctor Who. I had a blast last Christmas and look forward to travelling again through time and space with that nice man from Gallifrey."

Freema Agyeman who has played Martha Jones, The Doctor's companion throughout the critically acclaimed third series, will return to the show to join The Doctor and Donna mid series.

A glimpse of Martha's future in the new DWM.

Freema Agyeman has given Doctor Magazine the inside scoop on how Martha will have changed when she next meets up with the Doctor in Series Four...

"She'll actually be in a relationship by that point, so that part of her soul is fulfilled," Freema hints, "so I think she'll look at her relationship with the Doctor with fresh eyes - older and much, much wiser. The last time they will have seen one another is after she's just saved the world, so she went out on a high. And then they meet up again... so I imagine that they'll be sizing each other up a bit!"

Return Of The Ood (link)

They're back - but will they be Beastly?

The Ood, one of Doctor Who's most popular aliens, will return for a brand new adventure in Series Four.

In Planet of the Ood, the Doctor and his new companion Donna will travel to a weird and wonderful alien planet, where she will meet the mysterious race for the first time.

The episode will allow viewers to discover the origins of The Ood and why they behave the way they do – but will the Doctor become their friend or foe?

"We're delighted The Ood are making a welcome return to Doctor Who," said lead writer and Executive Producer Russell T Davies.

"They were last seen falling into a black hole back in Series Two and we think it's only fair for the viewers to find out what the Ood have to say for themselves! Donna is certainly in for a shock."

The fourth series of Doctor Who goes into production this July and will hit UK screens in Spring 2008.

Whodunnit? (link)

The Doctor and Donna book a date with Agatha Christie.

Filming is underway for Series Four of Doctor Who, with Catherine Tate reprising her role as Donna, the runaway bride featured in last year's Christmas Special.

The start of the new series will see Donna tracking down the Time Lord during an alien emergency in modern-day London. The couple are destined to experience a series of wonderful adventures throughout the new series including meeting one of Doctor Who's most popular aliens, The Ood in a brand new episode, Planet of The Ood.

Catherine Tate said: "I am delighted to be returning to Doctor Who. I had a blast last Christmas and look forward to travelling again through time and space with that nice man from Gallifrey."

Donna and The Doctor will also be travelling through time for an encounter with the legendary murder mystery novelist, Agatha Christie, played by Jekyll star Fenella Woolgar. Fenella will be joined by The Good Life actress Felicity Kendal, who will star as Lady Clemency Eddison.

"What a brilliant idea that Agatha Christie and Doctor Who should meet!," noted Matthew Prichard, Agatha Christie's grandson. "Two characters whose contribution to British entertainment is absolutely unrivalled. As far as I know my grandmother, Agatha Christie, never saw Doctor Who, but I am sure she would have been intrigued, excited and above all flattered by all this attention in 2007."

Doctor Who's executive producer and head writer, Russell T Davies comments: "Visiting Agatha Christie has been on my wish-list for ages now, and for the Doctor, it's a real meeting of minds! Viewers can expect many more ambitious storylines and a whole host of guest stars in 2008."

Blackadder and Notting Hill Actor Tim McInnerny will also guest star later in the series.

Freema Agyeman who has played Martha Jones, The Doctor's companion throughout the critically acclaimed third series will return to the show to join The Doctor and Donna mid series.

Russell talks Kylie and Catherine in new DWM.

"This year's Christmas Special was always going to have a one-off companion, little knowing that it would be Kylie!," reveals head writer and executive producer Russell T Davies in a candid interview in the new issue of Doctor Who Magazine.

"I like the Christmas-ness of a one-off," he adds. "As you'll see, there's a whole new take - again - on what a companion can be..."

Russell also reveals secrets concerning the return of 'Runaway Bride' Donna... "She gives us the chance to be blunt about things, and be gobsmacked by things.

"Of course, she'll still be brave and heroic sometimes, and she'll save the Doctor's life, but equally... for example, there's one episode where they land on an alien planet, and the first thing she does is go back in the TARDIS to find the right coat!"

Also in the mag, Classic Series designer Barry Newbery is given a VIP tour of the Doctor Who studios; Edward Thomas gives an in-depth insight into production design and the Doctor and Martha begin a new comic strip adventure, The First. Plus, Gareth Roberts pens Production Notes.

DWM 386 goes on sale from Thursday 23 August 2007.

Who's In A Flap? (link)

New publicity shot reveals 1920's makeover for Donna.

Donna Noble may have stood out from the crowd in her Runaway Bride wedding dress, but she's determined to blend in when the TARDIS makes a date with Agatha Christie during the 1920s.

Although David Tennant's Doctor remained in his timeless pin-striped brown suit for the adventure, Donna (played by Catherine Tate) chose this classy 'flapper' style period costume for the occasion.

With filming now complete on the period piece, David and Catherine are preparing to visit the Planet of the Ood - with presumably another costume change planned.

Both episodes are being produced by Susie Liggat, who previously took charge of the Human Nature / The Family Of Blood two-parter during Series 3.

I think that it is possible for The 9th Doctor to meet up with the 10th Doctor during the Xmas Special 2007. I mean, it the first episode that Christopher Eccleston was in of DW he said he was on The Titanic on its maiden voyage...

Spike it up 09-01-2007 05:23 AM

I remember Nine mentioning it.
That would make for the best Christmas Special, to have Nine and Ten meet. :sigh:

Camibra 09-01-2007 07:26 AM

Hey, it isn't unheard of for past doctors to meet up with other doctors. There was the 3 doctors serial and the 5 doctors serial. :)

3 Doctors, 5 Doctor, 2 Doctors, Sirens of Time (3 Doctors), Zagreus (4 Doctors).

As we discussed back in the SF/F Doctor Who thread, I think a multi-Doctor episode is the next big thing for the new series. They've done Daleks, Cybermen, the Master, revisted an old companion, and even given us Time Lord flashbacks, all of which made for the "big event" episodes in the past. The one thing they haven't done yet is a multi-Doctor episode, and the only Doctors it would be feasible to bring back (without using different actors) are Chris Eccleston and Paul McGann. Obviously, Eccleston would be preferred because more fans of the new series will know who he is without it being explained.

katrina87 09-01-2007 10:41 AM

I get the feeling though that Chris wouldn't even think about being on DW again. I haven't read many interviews he's done, but I guess he doesn't like to that about it?

Anyway, can we discuss that Children in Need thing here? I don't know how to do one of those spoiler boxes :\

stoptheqtip 09-01-2007 10:49 AM

Katrina, it's just [sp*] and [/sp*] (without the asteriks, obviously)

Definitely, it was a bit too angsty for me at times.

But it did have the best season long storyline so all is forgiven. :D
