I liked them together ok. They didn't have much time to bond. Only half a season really.

it was odd i think the ponds leaving mid way ruined it a lot

I think so too. It was awkward to switch companions mid season and then switch Doctors at the end of that season.

I think it was because of Karen's movie commitment to Guardians of the Galaxy. She got the role while still doing DW (not sure about this). When Karen decided to leave, Arthur followed suit because Rory without Amy is never gonna happen.

Maybe they were let out of their contract? I know other actors have been allowed to leave their contracts for other opportunities.
