I have to say I loved it! Matt Smith is so good as the Doctor, I wasn't even missing David Tennant THAT much, which is an achievement. I'm really liking
Amy too. Didn't really get the plot, but it was funny and exciting enough for me not to care that much. Oh and I love the new credits, and the new tardis. __________________

Siobhan, totally agree. Was barely even comparing him to DT, so he must have been good!
Must say, I liked Amy better as a child, but I still like the dynamic between her and Eleven- they've got a lot of chemistry. It was also very, very funny. Some really good dialogue. Looking forward to next week! __________________

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!! I LOVED IT SO MUCH and I am so relieved about that - because uhm I was so nervous I almost couldn't bring myself to watch it
I honestly was excited about the episode for the past few weeks and I knew I'd still like it - but I honestly wasn't expecting to love it this much and to be this taken with Eleven & Amy this soon I have to agree with all of you who said you didn't even miss David all that much. I did miss him at times, but the whole episode was so engaging and Matt did such a good job that it made me forget that real quick. Plus, he was just so much and so obviously the Doctor that it was all okay I do have to say that at times, Matt does sound an awful lot like David. Especially during parts where you don't see him talking but do hear him I had a few "hang on..!" moments. Maybe because Eleven's accent is also very similar to Ten's. I also reeaaally love Amy! I actually liked her better now that she's older, but she was great as a kid, too I already know I'm going to love her a lot. I like how it's already clear that she knows how to put him in his place - and I think they make a great team Quote:
I feel like I'm rambling right now and there is SO much else to say but uhm, I'll catch a breath first and then maybe get back to some more coherent thoughts. __________________

Yay, Val, so pleased you liked it!! I'd barely thought about Doctor Who the past few weeks, tbh - I kept remembering it was on tonight and surprising myself! So I think that helped a lot- no expectations. I bloody loved it, though. Really. You're so right about Matt Smith just... being THE DOCTOR. Though he was a little Tennant-esque at times, admittedly- I'm putting it down to regeneration, because at the end of the episode it was mostly gone.
My mam was like "so what did you think?" and I didn't want to say how much I liked it (she knows how much I adore DT) so I was just like "It was all right" but I was thinking "OMG BRILLIANCE". I want Eleven/Amy fic, like, right now. They're very...ficcable if that makes sense. __________________

Hah yeah, I know what you mean, in a way I almost feel guilty for liking it this much! it's just... IT'S DOCTOR WHO! for some reason I had expected it to be some whole new show because of all the changes, but it still felt exactly the same as watching an episode of Nine, or an episode of Ten. It just felt like Doctor Who. I had the same stupid grin on my face all through the credits, the same chill down my spine the first time I saw the TARDIS again, everything just fell right into place, there was no need to adjust whatsoever. It was just my favourite show again, right from the start and I am so pleased about that! I had honestly expected not to love it as much as I used to, but... Yeah.
The format of the show has just proven itself once again - that it can be reinvented every time but at its core still stay the same brilliant show ETA: also, I'm SO amused that all this time, everyone was convinced Amy would be a police officer (well, at least, I was, and if it was already known that she wouldn't actually be one, the news hadn't reached me... ) so when we found out she wasn't and was just running around in that costume the entire episode, it just made me laugh so hard __________________

I knew she wasn't a police officer. Maybe it's because I've actually seen what British female police officers wear on a fairly regular basis and I know TV has creative licence blah blah blah, but the BBC wouldn't get away with portraying police officers like that! I thought she was going to be a stripper, but I thought that might be a bit far for the BBC at 6.20 (kissogram's close enough though!)
I know, I kept thinking "it's different but it's actually the same". This is how most people must have felt after Nine regenerated! I feel so stupid now for being all "OMG NEW SHOW IT'S GOING TO BE TOTALLY DIFFERENT WAAAAAH I WANT DT". Because it's not- at its heart, it's still the Doctor Who I know and love. The dialogue was all very DW-y, I thought. Exactly my type of humour- I loved it. I also LOVED the way Amy/Amelia met the Doctor. Nice twist on the standard companion-introduction story (I thought it was going to be too much like Reinette, but I totally forgot about that preconception once it played out). I laughed so hard when Rory (?) said that Amy used to get him to dress up as the Doctor. LOLOLOLOL. But it's exactly what a kid in her situation would do! __________________

I really loved it, and to be honest I wasn't sure if I was going to like it or not because I thought I'd be missing David Tennant the whole time. Matt Smith is awesome already.
I really liked how Amy and the Doctor met, I thought it was interesting. |
