There wasn't enough time to write Clara and Eleventh Doctor relationship building due to Matt leaving the show. I knew after Arthur and Karen left, Matt would be leaving too. I think they build a lot with Jenna and Peter.

Just saw the CS ... wasn't really impressed. But IMO, the reason that 12 had tears in his eyes was because he was thinking of Clara and his hearts miss her - though River wouldn't know that was why he was crying because it's part of 12's past and not River's. She only remembers that the Doctor was crying. Just can't get into 12/River romantically - totally ship him with Clara.

One of the things I love about Twelve/Clara is that she's the very first (if not the only one) person who got past his "touch" barrier - to the point that he was initiating hugs and physical contact with her. When she reaches out to hug him, he reciprocates because he likes that contact. The way they caress each other's face is so tender... PC and JC just amazed me this past season. I really liked the whole Twelve/Clara dynamic and hope that Clara returns soon.

They do have a great friendship as well. He did mention that she was his friend several times in the season to people. It's sad with her erasing his memories of her.
