Parenthood 6.12 - "We Made It Through the Night" - January 22

Quote:
Camille (Bonnie Bedelia) and Zeek (Craig T. Nelson) make a decision concerning Zeek's health. Sarah (Lauren Graham) makes a big decision and shares some good news with her dad. Adam (Peter Krause) and Crosby (Dax Shepard) clash over differing business opinions, and Adam stands his ground, deepening the tension between the brothers. Amber (Mae Whitman) rushes to the hospital with labor pains, and the Bravermans flock to her side.

Oh my goodness. What an amazing episode!!

I don't even know where to start.. loved each and every Sarah scene. The singing and playing guitar with Amber (can Lauren please sing more in general?), the scene with Zeek, and telling Hank she wants to get married earlier to make sure her dad is there. Man, Lauren was not kidding about her crying in almost every scene lol.

And Amber named the baby Zeek! Gah. That was such a sweet moment at the end.

The whole episode was good, but the other storylines didn't stand out to me as much as the Sarah and Amber related stuff.

The promo.. I can't!! Lauren in a wedding dress is I can't wait for the finale but also dreading it because it's the end. Definitely calls for a Lauren patented #yayboo haha.

Also, I failed at finding her brother, did anyone else spot him? I guess there's also a possibility he could be in the next episode.

Even I teared up in the closing scenes and next weeks promo.
Loved Lauren playing the guitar she must have had lessons since that time on Ellen.

The fight at the first hospital visit was great, I knew a blow up was coming between Jasmine and Kristina.

Still a few bumps for Joel and Julia with the whole 'who slept with more people' fight, personally I don't think Joel was with anyone while they were apart.

Baby Zeek, I know the final is already packed but I do wonder if Zeek will change his mind after the wedding and with the new baby and have the operation?

Ahh i just can't. To many emotions after that episode!!

Lauren was amazing!!!! SO glad that she was the one to get the story line between her and Zeek. Her crying is sometimes hard to watch because its just so real.

Her and Craig have such a great chemistry between them sometimes i forget that he's not actually her dad.
I loved when she asked Hank to get married next week so that her Dad would be there. No words to describe that scene. I could hardly see through my tears haha.

Then there was Lauren singing with Mae! I never expected Lauren to be so good at guitar. I knew she could sing but wow, it was so good!

Baby Zeek! Perfect. Laurens tears, perfect. Zeeks smile, perfect.

This episode was so good!

I wish this could have been a full season

Wonder if NBC is kicking themselves for not picking up the show for a full 22 eps. Some of it has felt rushed this year.

Love that Lauren's dad was in one scene... in the back ground.

OMG, this episode. There were tears from start to finish, and just when I think I couldn't cry anymore, Amber goes and names her son, Zeek! I cannot deal with all this emotion, it's just too much!

I don't even know where to begin...I loved every scene.

But lets start with Amber and Sarah, singing their song. That scene was so beautiful put together. Who knew Lauren played the guitar so well! I really need a copy of the song. 'You're my hero' **tears**

I love the Joel and Julia are back together, but also like how everything isn't perfect between them, because it isn't going to be right away. Victor was right to question them.

I've always adored scenes between Sarah and her Dad, and this week was no different. Beautiful scene!

Adam for me, brought some much needed laughter, into this episode. He so dorky, sometimes! Lol

But no Drew this week? I was hoping he'd show up at the hospital with Zeek and Camille, when meeting baby Zeek!

and OMG, the promo for next week! The finale EVER promo. It's just all too much!

Jeez, I cried so much that I´m not sure I will survive next week.lol

Lauren was absolutely the best this episode. All the tears were because of her, the scenes with Amber and Zeek, and the baby at the end and Sarah just looking at Zeek. And she really had tears in all her scenes

Biggest laugh of the episode - Amber arriving to the hospital to have a baby (for the first time) and Adam already there with balloons and "where´s the baby?".lol

The scene with everyone yelling at the hospital brought me back to the first seasons when everyone talked over each other, also back to passive agresive Kristina.

I hope we´ll get to know what Adam and Crosby will do next in the future. I´m sad to see Luncheonette end.
I feel like all the stories should culminate right now so I don´t enjoy a side story for Adam, playing a cook. So random.

Hallo, Larry Graham.lol

The talking over scenes were nightmare to do a transcript for LOL

Ratings are okay, could be better but still holding it's own.

* How have we not heard Lauren Graham and Mae Whitman sing together since, what, Season 2? And is that song available for download?

The real wallop-packer, though, comes in the post-birth moment when Amber introduces her grandparents to her son Zeek. I mean, it didn’t require psychic powers to predict that’s what the kid’s name would be. But the jubilation with which Amber delivers the news, and Zeek’s teary-eyed appreciation, and Sarah’s quivery, emotional lips — DAMMIT, Graham, you owe me at least ten tissues for what you did to me during this episode — all work together to make the moment a goose-bump-inducing cry-climax regardless.

Also marvelous in this episode: Lauren Graham. She has certainly not lacked for things to do for the life of the series, but so much of that material has involved Sarah's love life, which has rarely been the most interesting part of her story, nor the sort of thing that's let her shine the most. But when she's in a position to play mother, or daughter, or sister — or, now, grandmother — she often shines, and she did it early and often in this one. The scene where she steps out from the fracturous "original six"(*) dinner to check on Zeek was just lovely, as was her duet with Amber on Joni Mitchell's "The Circle Game." (Can Graham and Mae Whitman just sneak into the Luncheonette to record an album of '60s and '70s folk covers?) The look of mixed emotions on her face with the two Zeeks — overjoyed at the arrival of one, fearful about the impending loss of the other — was a reminder of how great she can be when she isn't stuck in yet another love triangle plotline with Mr. Cyr.

It’s always sad when a good show ends, and “Parenthood” was a very good show. A brave one too, that refused to bow to trick or trend, that built its audience the old-fashioned way, slowly but surely, through great writing and solid ensemble performance.
Dare I say really Emmy worthy!

I know!! I've never cried this much during a TV show.
This episode was so amazing. I loved it. Lauren had so many beautiful scenes, and she and Mae were just beautiful together. I had the feeling Amber would call the baby Zeek, but it was still so unbelievably sweet to see Zeek hold his baby great-grandson.
The two moments that bugged me a little were Kristina and Jasmine fighting at the hospital-not the time, nor place- and Adam and Crosby fight at the dinner table. It felt so very self-involved, and it broke my heart to see Zeek leave the table. But it was great to see Sarah go up to him and talk.
Another scene that moved me was the moment when that kid, Edgar, was successful in his soufflé. It was just so sweet to see him succeed.
I am so not ready for this show to end. It feels like it still has so much potential.

My thoughts:

1. I’m so glad Lauren got to shine and show the real actress that she is. It’s about time. I’ve watched this episode four times and wept during all her scenes each time. No other show (TV, movie or the theater) had that profound effect on me.

2. I felt Mae’s saying “you’re my hero” was meant directly to Lauren more than Sarah and judging from Lauren’s reaction, she felt it too. She got choked up I was afraid she’d lose it while singing and strumming the guitar.

3. She’s indeed an amazing singer even when Mae messed up the words. I would’ve lost my bearings.

4. I thought Lauren tried to dial down her waterworks in the following scenes: the song segment (Lauren yelling out “everybody,” “Joni” and “thank you Detroit”) and smiling with teary eyes when Hank jokingly offered to dry off her tears with a camera accessory. Worthy tries because her next scenes were real tearjerkers but didn't work for me at all. I hardly had time to recover from those dialled down crying sprees, wiping my eyes and cheeks constantly, before her next scenes came. I was a total mess.

5. I imagine Lauren and Mae having so much fun rehearsing that song. And that made me envious and jealous. I keep rewinding to the song scene and each time Lauren yells out “everybody’ I would join in the chorus. Feels like I’m part of “everybody” (lol).
