I like this character, but she also rubs me the wrong way. Something about her feels very judgemental about Will that I don't really like and I can't put my finger on it.

She's a very independant, opinionated, brilliant, competent person!

She's a successfull woman who won recognition, respect and authority in a men's world based yet on power plays and domination, but her ambition didn't transform her in an opportunistic, selfish and insensitive liar like Freddie. The woman has a heart and is not afraid to show it when it comes to protect people who are placed in a situation of fragility like Will because of his disorder or Abigail after her family trauma.

I love the fact that she's not afraid to confront and resist Hannibal and Jack, and thats she's strong enough to make fail their attempt of pressure or domination.

And she has class and impeccable fashion style

It's all subjective but IMO i didn't get the feeling thats she's judging Will: she explicitly told him that he's not broken, which makes her with Beverly among the very rare characters that accept his difference as part of his personality or attitude, without considering it a weakness like Jack or idolized it like Hannibal.

She has showed him so far a great deal of support, and is very respectuous of Will needs of loneliness and privacy limits.

When she said to him that they can't be together because he's unstable, i didn't feel that she was undermining him. IMO, she was being a caring friend, a responsable and ethical professional who put the well being of Will before her attraction for him. She knows that in his current state of oversensitivity, he would only become more dependant on her and she doesn't want this for him.
She doesn't have the God complex of Hannibal who tries to reshape Will to submit him to his own needs, she doesn't see herself as Will's savior (which i applaud because how many woman think that they can fix the bad guy or the broken guy).
She wants an healthy and balanced relationship with a man fully in possession of his capacities. So she is waiting for Will to be ready for that.

She's IMO the stark opposite to Hannibal in all her attitude: she showed selfness, compassion, she refuses to take advantage of Will by pursuing a relationship that could hurt him just for her own benefit, she's an ethical professional who refused to stay in the same room alone with Will (while Hannibal accepted to psychoanalyze Bella fully knowing that the situation was a clear conflict of interest), respectuous of people's boundaries.
A symbolic fight of influence between them could be very compelling to watch but she is so far pushed in the background because the show focuses more on the mutual fascination between Hannibal/Will.

I've tried warming up to her - as in actually liking her the way I like the other characters - but I don't know, she seems contrived to me. I don't feel like she's judgemental of him, just very protective. Like the way she was with Abigail when Jack wanted to show her the body, for example. She knows he's going down on a doomed path and she feels helpless that there's literally not much she can do about it.

I also like that they used one of Molly's (Will's wife on the book) lines for her, a variation when she tells Jack 'you said he wouldn't get too close.' It's so fun reading Red Dragon and noticing lines they've used on the show.

Interesting point this reference to Molly: i feel a foreshadowing for the future of her relationship with Will.

I think it would be a perfect idea, actually. I thought about opening one for each book, since people (like myself) might have not read the whole trilogy yet. It's good to have a thread for the books seeing as we can discuss them freely without risking spoiling people who only watch the show.

The Walking Dead board has a thread just for the comics and it works great.
