I am halfway through season 2 and I really don't want it to end

No it ended last year, after you are done with 2 you have one more season.
But I think the ending was a good closure and you will like it, was pretty epic

I think the showrunner knew the show's days were numbered and gave it that ending, it's very fitting and for Will and Hannibal's relationship

there's no cliffhanger (I have to bite my tongue to don't make a bad joke there

A Là Hugh) season 3 starts slow but it picks up especially after the first half it's really good.
