And in this day, you can do bismal ratings but have enough of a following or maybe critical acclaim, and especially if you can get a streaming deal that you can continue. So even if Roswell NM is in the midseason and doesn't get much of a push right now, it can still do well in the long run.

Riverdale got terrible actual ratings, but because of their Netflix deal... people watched over the summer, and got a lift from that. It still gets pretty dismal actual ratings, but other metrics keeps it going...

Which is why our Roswell existed in the wrong time. Their ratings now, would be seven or more seasons.

And with so many slots open next season due to shows ending... there will be plenty of a chance. Because Roswell NM will fit in the soapy but with powers category. And even some of the superhero shows like Arrow is getting older, so there is no guarantee how much longer it will run.

Charmed will be a test run into the reboot power. And that had more original power than Roswell did.

So it will be interesting to see how it goes.

Just sending this on over from another thread.

I was once a rabid Roswell fan some 19 yrs ago. I lived for it every week. Over the years, it became a distant fond memory.

With the initial whispers about a reboot, it made me start to remember the live I had for it.

So just recently, I sat down an did a marathon to revisit old friends.

I view it a little differently now then I did back then.

Max Evans: then- um. Yes please?! Where can I get me one of him? Broke my heart with the Tessa thing. Never quite forgave him.

now- um. Yes please?!! Not much character development, but who cares? Where can I get me one of him? I viewed the Tessa thing a little differently this time around. Not angry, just hurtful. He broke me, when he was in the Jeep with Liz right before the 4 of them were leaving- when he broke down & cried. I cried & forgave him. It was always Liz.

Liz Parker: then- sweet innocent school girl swept up in a literal fairy tale & danger.

now- my view of her hasn't changed much other then I believe her character was not a normal high school girl. Fairy tales do exist, and she was willing to risk it all to be with him.

Maria DeLuca: then- a little annoying. Typical high school girl. Like an annoying little sister.

now- great character development. She really did turn into a solid character. She carried her part so well. I like her a lot more this time around.

Michael Guerin: then- bad boy with bad hair. Caused 1/2 the trouble they got in to, mostly on purpose.

now- sensitive guy, with a bad boy persona. Was never intentionally seeking trouble, just answers. Truly cared about those close to him.

Isabel Evans: then- typical Prom Queen type. Snobby & whiny.

now- nice character development. She wasn't who I thought she was the first time around. Shes actually sweet, just very guarded.

Alex Whitman: then- sweet, dorky sidekick. A great friend to have.

now- sweet, dorky guy with a heart of gold. The guy every girl ignored in high school, but the guy every woman would fall all over later in life- had he made it past 17.

Kyle Valenti: then- nosy & typical jock.

now- sweet, caring guy who happened to be a jock. Loved his character development through the seasons. When he realized what part he played in Alex's death... I was crushed for him.

Sheriff Valenti: then- determined authority figure that made me nervous throughout the series.

now- a guy doing his job, and trying to understand that what he thought he knew his whole life was.. wrong and being ok with it. Stepped up & made a great surrogate for some kids that he didn't have to help.

Tessa Harding: then- Hated. Her. So. Much. Just a conniving obstacle. She murdered Alex. She seduced Max. Almost got them all killed.

now- some character development. I will never forgive her for murdering Alex. Her seduction of Max was a little less maddening, only because i realuzed he never really even cared for her.Still don't like her, but not like I did years ago.

I still felt all the feels watching it this 2nd time. The joy. The sadness.
I still dislike The End of the World episode. I find it very unnecessary. And a bit upsetting.
Cry Your Name. Cried again this episode. So moving. I miss Alex.

I am still irritated on how shortened we got with M & L wedding... when we got the extended version of Max & Tess's sex scene.

I still very much love this show. I appreciate in a different level now.

I'm not sure about this reboot though?

Yes casting for the new show Roswell New Mexico is done.

The cast list came be found here.

Most of the cast are unknowns and a few worked on the Originals or on Vampire Diaries.

At least they will know each other . I haven't seen the originals but I have seen some of the vampire diaries, the actors seem good.

I wish I could say I had any faith in the new actors chosen to play the roles, but the ones I am familiar with have left me unimpressed. I'm not trying to bash them personally, it's just my own opinion that they lack the ability to take on these characters in all of their complex, messy, glory. I've seen better chemistry between a drunk and a burger

I know they sort of tried to do that with Star Crossed 4 years ago and it failed, but I bet if that show were to come out now...it would likely survive a couple years. Just my thoughts though.
True, but the same could be said about our show. It wasn't all that close to the books, either. A bit closer than this, certainly, but not that close.

But it would be unlikely to have the same ratings now, with today's competition.

I'm not implying that the original show was a closer adaptation to the books, definitely closer than what this new one will be. My point with that original comment was because this new one was being touted earlier by the people involved as being closer to the book series, when in fact, it's even further from the books than the original show was (it should be noted that CM did not actually read the series and has no plans to). So much further that it would have made more sense to make an entirely new show about aliens. As we get closer to production starting, there's more and more information available and it becomes much clearer as to the content. Obviously the show is happening as is and both versions will be so drastically different from each other as well as from the book series. It was just an observation I had during a much larger and more in depth discussion about tv in general.

I didn't follow the books. I only read one, once the show was on the air and they changed the covers to show Jason and Shiri on them. So I do know the book Liz had a different last name. And color of hair was different was different. But then you often find that when they do casting...

Harry Potter didn't stick that close to characters in the book and the movies in terms of looks for some characters.

I know they said they decided to change the name to Parker when they found Shiri because she was the best person for the job, and the character. So they changed it.

From what I know of this new production as has been said. Only names are the same, everything else seems to be completely different from the source material. At least our version had them still in high school...

But time will tell how the new show gels to the source material.

And in terms of ratings. I do know ratings existed at a different time. Even now, I given that Roswell had loyal fans... Something they could milk in the days of social media. I do think the show still would last five to seven years in this day and age...

Now what it would have done to Max and Liz is another story. We might not have gotten their story in Season 2, at the end of the season. They could have gone a whole new directions, for good and bad.

In this day and age they would have wanted to hang onto Max and Liz as a couple. But then they could have done wonders for angst with others... including using Michael and Maria to cause temptations...

So in that way, we got lucky with those three years... But still, I wish this new production was a continuing adventure and not all new.

In another sign the world has gone crazy, in more ways...

There is now talk of a Buffy remake with a black lead actress. So all new telling. It's being pitched to networks and streaming, so we'll see if it actually goes anywhere... It's still very early... Whedon would be behind the new show!

Sarah made that show. I can't see it redone in a new way...

They should have tried to get Sarah back and done a continuing adventure with her daughter or something...

This is all just too much and it needs to stop. Is nothing sacred anymore?! There are so many ways to continue the story without rebooting it. Hell, the show WAS already a reboot of the movie and rightfully so. But this, this is not ok.

Preach it! Welcome you have come to the right place! We all feel the same way you do!

What you can't redo Buffy! Buffy was iconic it was groundbreaking!

I swear the CW has lost it! Who thought that was a great idea! It's another disaster waiting to happen! If a reboot does happen you know the Buffy fans will have their say in that. It will fail faster then the vampires Buffy staked.

Hey CW here is in idea why don't you get original content instead of ripping off your old shows from your former network the WB from the 90's!

It's actually being pitched to no specific network. So it's open to everyone I believe. Including streaming. Although Netflix has picked up Sabrina which is a more gothic telling, so I am not sure they would jump at Buffy...

It might land on CW, but given they have so much product and very little timeslot space. I am not sure it will land there... But it fits the brand. And puts Roswell, New Mexico on very tenuous ground.

It's a mistake to even try, as Sarah made that show. It was watchable because of the chemistry she brought to the show!
