This is a place where all fans of Roswell are welcome to share their positive thoughts regarding our beloved show without having to defend ourselves for having such thoughts and opinions. We hail from many different shipper groups; anyone who likes Roswell is welcome here.

Now that I have Internet at home, my Mom stopped the other night and finally got to see where is it that her daughter spends so much time. Why, she has been hearing all about FF for five years now That, too, is a long time

And I've finally been given my final test' date: March 29... 2:00p.m.... Class room J - 403... I don't want to do that!!!! I'm scared! I'm terrified!!! Everytime I think about that, me and those three teachers starting at me as I present all three projects... something just dies inside of me

I am nervous about it... So, you know how it goes with me: Ten days and counting Wish me luck guys! This thing done and then I'll be truly out of college!

OKay, I was doing a random lurk when I saw my PODsters had a new thread! Had to come by and join in on the fun. (And jump at the chance to be on Page 1. Yay!) Just giving a hello to everyone and how much I miss you guys.

I'm taking a random screenwriting class with my roommie (CocoaBehr) and we had to dissect and tv show for an assignment. We did Roswell's pilot. Made me miss it so much!

I'm hard at work on the bowl-a-thon with Andie. Its for sure going to be the biggest and best yet. Hope everyone joins in. If you want to be on the egroup for the newsletter, let Anne know. Anne@bowl4fsma.org

Hi POD's!

Snowy: Good to hear from you! We miss you too. I hope the bowl-a-thon goes well for you. And if you ever get another assignment to dissect a TV show, let us know what episode of Roswell you picked.

Misha: Here's a big "Hi!" to your Mom and a thanks for sharing your daughter with us.

And what's this about a last test? I thought you were done! That's not fair! Is this related to the my-partner-messed-up-and-almost-got-me-flunked bit that happened last May/June?

My oldest son watched Power Rangers when he was young. He's 18 now.

Oooh, I forgot about that! I always figured he morphed that out of the wall, kind of like I was thinking maybe Nicholas morphed the columns out of the floor. Count me in for the manipulation theory.

Oh, I believe it. I've done that in my fanfic. The difference is that I'm writing way ahead of posting (i.e. air date), so I have time to ponder what I want, maybe try a few things and settle on something before I actually stick it out there. I'm not sure Roswell writers ever reached any solid conclusions about the Granolith. Spaceship? Time machine? Religious object? Holy Grail? All of the above?

I've always felt Nasedo held back--and stayed away--because they weren't ready to know. I think he showed up when he did because he had to--Max's healing Liz had tipped off the SU. I also think that symbol at the cave in ITW was a test of a sort. Were they curious? Would they go looking? How would they react? Were they at all ready to hear anything?

I've always wondered how the citizens of Roswell reacted when they realized how much time had passed. Yes, Alex had his cold waffles, but did he look at his watch? Did Dianne realize her fritatta was stale? Or did the magic green belly button rod conveniently roll time back to where it was when it was first.....er.....erected? (*Cough* Sorry for the double entendre. I couldn't resist. )

So now that we've wiped out Wipe Out, let's go after all the possibilities in Meet the Dupes.

Hi Snow White! That is so cool that you are taking a screenwriting class with CocoaBehr! Here’s wishing you great success with this year’s bowl-a-thon!

Misha, I’m sorry that I have upset you in so many ways, from sentence structure to post length, through post content. I apologize for offending you.

I think maybe you might be happier with me, if I would bash Roswell to the extent that you might like people to bash Roswell. And maybe you would just like me not to explain why I admire the writers so much.

I’m guessing that you like Roswell despite what it is, whereas I love Roswell, because of what it is.

My sincere apologies to you for offending you in so many ways. I’m very sorry.

When things aren’t as we might expect, there is a reason for it.

Healing power, like other powers, were based on who was being healed, the condition of the person being healed, and the condition of the person doing the healing.

At the hospital, Max collapsed from healing the children. He had a finite amount of energy. When he used up his energy, he collapsed.

Later, his powers gradually returned.



When Max died, he lost the Seal of Antar. The Seal had given Max the power to bring people back to life and to create a force-field energy shield.

Max died healing Clayton. His soul went into Clayton’s body. Max’s energy went into Clayton’s body, too. His energy changed Clayton’s body to look like Max’s body. Max’s energy also created a force-field energy shield, which saved Liz from the fall from the window. The rest of Max’s healing energy was used up, in recovering from the fall from the window.

When Max tried to heal Kyle’s hand, all of Max’s healing powers had been used up in healing Clayton’s body twice. Max still had some force-field energy shield power, which was weak.

Liz said, “I'm Liz Parker and five days ago I died. But then the really amazing thing happened. I came to life.”

Liz reported her experience as she saw it. Liz believed that she died.



Alex was dead a lot longer than Liz or Valenti.

Max couldn’t heal everything. He couldn’t heal Alex, even though he wanted to.

The same thing is true in real life. Applying the same treatment to different people in different stages of injury or sickness or death produces different results.

Max wasn’t God. He didn’t have the final say in matters of life and death, anymore than doctors do.

Max couldn’t heal Samuel, either, even though he wanted to. Max asked Isabel to help, and Isabel helped heal Simon’s parents, by connecting them to Simon’s dreams. (There are different ways of healing. )

Roswell isn’t really a plausible show, in terms of the way things normally happen. Roswell is a creative, imaginative show about doing things differently. It's a show about what might happen if people could actually travel between planets and come to Earth.

Roswell is about people and possibilities and relationships. It’s about people connecting with each other and helping each other, even if they are from different worlds.

Some people get into places through windows. A window or a gap or an opening in the zone through which Maria, Liz, Kyle, and his dad entered Roswell is plausible, within the context of the story.

The Skins entered Roswell on their bus, before the green device was activated. One Skin remained hidden near the green device, to turn the device on or off and to keep people from interfering with the green device. (The Skin attacked Kyle, near the green device.)

Many things in life can’t be explained by what we know. Some things can only be observed and acknowledged as being something out of the ordinary.

It was out of the ordinary for Max to heal Liz the way he did. It was out of the ordinary for extraterrestrial aliens to arrival on Earth or to survive a spaceship crash in 1947. It was out of the ordinary for the podsters to be in pods in a rock formation.

Roswell doesn’t explain in detail how people might survive in pods, or travel between planets. Rather, Roswell offers the opportunity to think about things in new ways.

Liz, Maria, Kyle, Valenti, Max, Michael, Isabel, Tess, and Nicholas knew what happened to them within their experience, the day the Skins imposed the zone over Roswell. No one else knew that anything had happened.

Some things seem impossible, unless they are experienced personally.

Citrus, I'm truly sorry. I never intended to be harsh on you but I guess I was out of line there. Seriously, go ahead on your own way, you have all the right in the world. I promise I won't say a word and I'll learn to be tolerate as I should have always been. My sincere apology to you.

And I don't like bashing Roswell. I just like to follow it logically, as most sci-fi fans do. We are -the sci-fi fans in general- by far, the "worst" fans out there becuase we are too nitpicky with stuff, and we drive writers nuts And the core of a good sci-fi story is not that it is "true", but that, given those circumstances, you would expect people to react accordingly. That's why Sixth Sense was such a blast: You could actually believe people would react like that to those news.

So, I know the show is way too far fetched, as Kathy once told me: The show is about reincarnated royalty from another planet Yet I can buy it, and play along that world, BUT I will expect that world to follow it's own rules. And when it doesn't, well, I do point it out. That's me.


Now, Meet The Dupes! I'm actually in a hunger now -yes, "hunger", it's diner time!!!- but I wanted to start the discussion.


What is it about Zan that Max lacks? Confidence? Arrogance? Authority? The hair do? Seriuosly, I love Zan!! I know that Max can be just like Zan when he gets on his nerves, or is pushed too far. But Max just has a way too "human" heart, if you like, and of course, he didn't grow up knowing he was a king.

I guess that's the main -but not the only- difference between the two sets: One knew next to nothing, and the other knew... ahem... a lot more.

The main quesetion in here might be if the original royal four were like the dupes? Becuase if Vilandra was like that... well... I really don't want to meet her... That woman IS scary! And Ava just lacks what a queen would need. Or should need, I think.

One of the most compelling aspects of this episode is that it portrays the eternal question: Nature versus Nurture. And they were alike in their personalities, to some degree. I suppose if we take those elements that were in both sets we might get a clearer picture as to how were the original royal four, uh?

The other question is, were their human donor's personalities completely wiped out? I would have said "yes" in an instant, but then we have Lauree's statement of how many "quirks" Michael has from her grandpa... which all in itself is very amusing when you consider how much genes can control the little things you do. The eternal debate, I guess.

And now that I'm truly famishing, I'll end it up here You can hardly think when you are this hungry! (and much less if you are listening to "Sex and Candy" and thinking about strawberries... )

Huh? Someone accused you of bashing Roswell? Why? Just because you don't like/understand every single little thing about it?

*Sigh* Perhaps this is a good time for clarification on what POD's consider bashing. *climbs on soapbox* We do NOT consider all negative opinions to be bashing. And, yes, we do have negative opinions about Roswell. Being a POD doesn't mean one likes everything about the show, the actors, the production team, etc. Being a POD means that what we like about the show outweighs what we don't like, and that what we don't like is expressed in a reasonable manner, just like it says in our thread header. Personal attacks ("that actress can't act because she's a ****!"), name calling (Katie Heigel has quite few epithets aimed at her anatomy), profanity (self-explanatory)--all that qualifies as bashing. Merely saying one doesn't like or doesn't understand something, or wishes something had been done differently is NOT bashing--that's disagreement, or a difference in preference. Bashing is an extreme that goes way beyond just saying one doesn't like something, and I haven't seen any bashing on this thread.

Although Max certainly has flashes of confidence, arrogance, and authority (but not the hairdo. ) If we take Zan's confidence, arrogance, and authority, (skip the hairdo ) and pair it with Max's caution and concern for his friends and family....hmm. Interesting. Ladies and Gentlemen, I think we have ourselves a King.

The Dupes in New York are the antithesis of acceptable royalty on any planet. Given that the Dupes had powers humans don’t have, they fared very poorly. They lived in the sewers. They lived hand-to-mouth. They stole from people, who worked for their livelihood.

The Dupes would have been unwelcomed on any planet, since they didn’t care about other people. Worse yet, Lonnie and Rath murdered Zan, their podmate, without remorse. They tried to kill Max, and they might have killed Tess, as well, if Max hadn’t appeared in time.

Murderers and thieves, the Dupes would have been rejected by anyone who knew what they really did.

I love the music in Meet the Dupes! The music on the DVD of the episode has different songs than the TV version. I still hear the original music in my head, as the episodes play on DVD, but I also love the replacement songs! I’m hoping someone identifies the DVD songs.

I love the costumes and the sets in the episode, too.

The Dupes form an interesting contrast to the Roswell group, as more things about the past and the podsters' home planet are revealed!

The Dupes were morally corrupt. Although we don’t know which sack Hal saw leaking, or whether or not both sacks leaked, a case could be made that it was the Dupes’ sack that leaked and resulted in producing the morally defective Dupes.

The Dupes didn’t earn their way through life. The Dupes were parasites who used their powers against people.

Ava, alone, reformed. She left Lonnie and Rath, knowing that they might kill her. Ava believed that Lonnie and Rath would probably kill Max, but she didn’t warn Max, before he left, even though he helped Ava to leave Lonnie and Rath safely.

Liz showed Ava kindness, by giving her a place to stay. When Isabel, Michael, and Liz pressed Ava to explain why Lonnie pretended to be Isabel, Ava then explained that Lonnie and Rath had killed Zan, and would probably kill Max.




In the story of Roswell, aliens had powers, which humans have differently. Humans couldn’t heal the way Max, Michael, Isabel, and Tess could heal, but humans study disease and injury and help people, with medical people, medicines, and medical tools.

Humans can’t dreamwalk, but they can talk to each other to learn what people think. People can’t reassemble a broken statue in an instant, but they can repair some broken things, make things, and buy things.

Humans can’t reach each other through dreamwalking, but humans have cells phones to keep in contact with each other, over long distances.

Humans have powers the aliens had, but in different ways.

Shapeshifting is the one power humans don’t have. Shapeshifting represented perhaps the greatest threat to humankind.

Shapeshifters could look and sound like anyone. They could kill people quickly and quietly and then quickly shift and become someone else.

Shapeshifters could easily take over Earth, by becoming the heads of governments, heads of corporations, and heads of organizations.

We only know of two shapeshifters—Nasedo and Kal Langley. Both Nasedo and Kal murdered people to get what they wanted.

Both Nasedo and Kal had to follow Max’s direct orders, if they directly interfered with Max/King Zan. Neither of them could personally kill Max/King Zan.

We don’t know whether or not there were other shapeshifters, who might have been good, kind, helpful people.

Nasedo and Kal Langley, though, were bad people, who harmed and murdered people.

Nasedo and Kal Langley probably had imposed upon them the two constraints of not being able to personally kill the king and having to obey a direct order from the king, because of having done bad things before.

Nasedo and Kal Langley were each given the two constraints, in order to prevent them from murdering the king and taking over his place, before anyone noticed.



Fortunately, we have no shapeshifters to threaten human life!
