It kinda seemed like the book was there just so Max (or one of the other aliens) would see it being taken out. Just seems like a ploy to get their attention

It makes sense, the most sense, if it was a ploy. But then that's also frustrating because that's not going to get them to like or trust you. Just come out with who you are rather than playing games.

*sigh* the writers just thought about shock value instead of character motivations making sense.

Exactly. It was mainly because of shock value. They could have made Max follow her and her leading him to the book in some place that actually makes sense

Or, as she knew he was following her, she could have had the book on her & then left it somewhere for him to pick up...

I guess there was also her wanting to make him jealous...or awaken something in him....if he saw her with Kyle?

Yeah, jealousy was definitely playing a factor. I just think about the fact that did Nasedo and Tess know about Liz and Kyle and that Kyle might be a trigger for Max?

Hmm, I guess they must have done, which would make you think that they had been around a lot longer spying on the gang than we thought...

If they were spying, it must've been incredibly frustrating for Tess to be told by Nasedo that she couldn't reach out to the gang just yet. I feel like he must've dictated a lot of their actions.

Now that I think about it, Nasedo was probably doing the spying on his own, Tess said that he used to leave her alone a lot, so she probably didn't see Max & the others until not long before she actually got to meet them.
