Well, I enjoyed the Pool Picnic! Hot dogs & sausages of various kinds, plus hamburgers; baked beans (fixed up), a couple different potato salads, cole slaw, and several kinds of pie. Yum.

I hope everyone's had a happy Fourth of July.

I played a concert last night. It was outside, and the clouds came in with a breeze, so it wasn't so hot.

Welcome, JournalingJedi !

The Pool's open for swimming, just be sure you take your socks off first! Grab a hot dog, some beans & some potato salad, and a nice cold drink. There may be some pie left, too. We're a pretty easy-going bunch here; we used to be the Spoiled Dreamers (aka, Brats) 'way back when. Now, it's an ongoing Pool Party. So, have a seat, and talk to us! I saw my first fireflies of the year, this evening... Have you seen any yet?

It is quiet around here, with Cuddles on break, Kooba on vacation, ThereYoullBe with her internet difficulties, and everyone else scattered.

I was sorry to see June go; I will have to be back at work in a few days.
Time for band camp already.
I love these days when it is still daylight at 9:30 at night.

Yes, we're getting into the High Summer season. The days start to noticeably shorten, but the heat remains. We're seeing fireflies now, and the Queen Anne's Lace ("wild carrot") will be blooming, and the Joe Pye weed, iron weed and other fall flowers will bloom. The leaves on the trees start to look tired, after a long Summer's work. And in the dawn's twilight, Orion gleams; a harbinger of Winter to come.

It will be downhill from here, but... not quite yet.

Thank you so much for the thoughts, love, and prayers I really appreciate it! It has not been easy. My Grandma was an amazing woman who touched so many lives in her 98 years on earth. I am going to miss her so much.

Thanks again for all of the love and support!

Stay cool everyone! Summer is here. Hope you all had a nice 4th of July!

Last year was the first time I heard of Joe Pye weed. It was listed in the to 10 plants you need for a butterfly garden. I have 4 plants going now, but they haven't bloomed yet.

Well, the common variety around here blooms in August, with many dead purple (poor description, but you'll know it when you see it) flowers. At least one variety is known as "bone-set tea", and is supposedly good for helping broken bones heal.
I would check with an herbalist or botanist to be sure that your variety is safe to ingest, just to be on the safe side. It isn't tasty, but it didn't kill me.

There is, of course, a Wikipedia entry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eutrochium
The top picture is the color I mean.

Well, I am home for awhile: I tested positive for COVID.
The one time I went out of town to visit.

The plant looks like a milkweed type of bloom.
I hope mine bloom this year.

COVID again?!? That's so passe'. Monkeypox is the new Covid, you know.
Of course, if you've had the smallpox shot (as a child), that's supposed to give protection against monkeypox. I wouldn't test it, though...

I hope you don't get sick from it, Indy. I tested positive again, a few months ago, but I never got sick from it.

Are you getting many butterflies in your garden? How about hummingbirds? Now you can stay home and watch them.

Butterflies have been few so far this summer. I'm trying to build up an area that will encourage more in the yard.

My biggest COVID problem has been daily headaches and fatigue.
Anytime I get up to do something, I'm ready for a nap.

My goodness, it's been slow! Is everybody outside, enjoying the heat?

Come cool off, in the Pool!
