They were so young too...probably caught up in everything. Hard to know what you have at the time!

Exactly Plus, they each had other ambitions - Brendan wanting to pursue a movie career and Majandra wanted to develop her singing career.

They've since done both things, and have come to realize how much Roswell impacted their lives in a positive way. Majandra said great things about the show 4 years ago at the Reunion panel, about how she relished being in a job where you know your lines and coming onto set never felt like a chore in the way it does with some other jobs.

It was totally OOC to have her act like that.

I totally agree with you Honestly, the episode Behind The Music is one of those random finding-yourself episodes that just felt totally unnecessary. It doesn't help that she switches from saying "I need to get away from this alien drama" to inserting herself right back into it the following episode. I got the impression that the writers cared less about characters staying true to themselves in Season 3 because they knew it would get cancelled soon.

The Maria we knew, who was thrilled when Michael stayed on planet Earth because he considered Maria his "Home", would NOT have done what Season 3 Maria did.

Oh god, yes

I think they were deliberately portraying Maria as unknowingly self-centered in that episode, so that she would get a big wake-up call from Michael at the end of it when he tells her about Liz being sick.

^Still I hated it.

I hated how they got together in the end, for me the show ended with them "on their way back together" but not 100% back together (well Jason Katims said so himself) and that pisses me off!!!!!

Season 3 was so bizarre, for M&M. It's true that the fact that most of it was based on the actors's lives and not on the characters's lives, is crazy. Actors's personal lives should never impact a storyline. Unfortunately, it does. Last case being
Spoiler:

I hate that. Really hate that personal matters get written into shows.

^Add Lethal Weapon, leading actor one (Clayne Crawford - Billy from Roswell) got fired because (among other things) of differences with leading actor number two (Damon Wayans) which is sad because the two of them have insane chemistry and Clayne was TERRIFIC in the part

Oh yeah, I heard about that!

M&M were really difficult to watch in parts of season 3. Like, really frustrating.

I’ve already posted in depth before about why I no longer take issue with Maria in season 3 or find it OOC, so I won’t go into it again. I do still understand the frustration, but I empathize with her more now that I’m an adult.

The fact is that the writers had forgotten about M&M. They had a plan for Max and Liz, Isabel, and Michael but Nothing for Michael and Maria. It took MD complaining to the writers and they came up with that storyline in a hurry. It wasn't planned. That's one of the problem. OOC, yes. Copying MD's life, yes. Written in a hurry to please the actress that was forgotten... yeah, that was bad.

That's the worst part. M&M were considered together, happy so why bother with them? The writers had something for Michael, though, but not for Maria and not for M&M.

So even discussing season 3 is off for me because it's like we are partially discussing Majandra Delfino, and not Maria Deluca.

No everyone needs a storyline all the time, I would have been happy with M&M growing as a couple without that crappy ****....Writers can't write happy couples.

I know what you mean but I find it hard to look back on that season and not wonder what the hell the writers were thinking.

I completely understand Maria feeling the need to ~find herself~ (it's only human), but the simple fact is that Michael had stayed on planet Earth for her. He gave up his biggest dream (finding his home planet) because he realized that Maria was his home. To go from this big development, to the way that their relationship falls in Season 3... It just left a bad taste in my mouth.

I have no issue with throwing drama into a relationship but I think they did it quite carelessly. Michael was finally being completely open with her, and then she shuts herself off from him and his world. Even more awkwardly, she's still hanging out with the group afterwards, so I don't think the writers knew how to handle it, really.

It was awful writing, they could have Maria finding herself with better writing than that crap and maybe with more development?? The whole thing happened in one episode!!
