With the sad forum closure, I'm relocating my ongoing rewatch discussion here with some commentary on Welcome to Story Brooke and Selfless, Brave, and True.

I know that a lot of Once fans didn't like Season 2's concluding story arc with Greg and Tamara, but I've never been one of those people. It is admittedly a little bit hard to watch Sonequa Martin Greens acting now and not think of her performance as Michael Burnham, but I still think it was a brilliant way to build to Season 3 and weave the showrunners' plans for the Peter Pan story into the season's focus on family and the reintroduction of Neal.

Ending Welcome to Storybrooke with the subtle revelation that Greg Mendell is really Owen Flynn and the seguing into Selfless, Brave, and True's revelations about Tamara and her connections to him, August, and Neal is also actually really clever planning.

I actually love the ending of season 2, I think the final episode is my favourite episode ever, so yes the Greg and Tamara plotline doesn't put me off.

I love the twists the show would hit us with.

For me, the introduction of Greg and Tamara is one of the (surprisingly rare) examples of Once explicitly leaning into the 'Little Bad' storytelling trope pioneered and defined by Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and is a trope that is paid off perfectly in early Season 3 in order to seamlessly transition into the introduction of Felix and Malcolm/Peter Pan as the series first classic 'Little Bad'/'Big Bad' combination.

It was also a great twist that Greg and Tamara were unaware of who was controlling them and why. That blind faith got themselves into a situation completely out of their depth.
