Buffy the Vampire Slayer Thread #3: "If the apocalypse comes, beep me."

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is an American television series that aired from March 10, 1997 until May 20, 2003. The series was created in 1997 by writer-director Joss Whedon under his production tag, Mutant Enemy Productions with later co-executive producers being Jane Espenson, David Fury, David Greenwalt, Doug Petrie, Marti Noxon and David Solomon. The series narrative follows Buffy Summers (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar), the latest in a line of young women known as "Vampire Slayers" or simply "Slayers." In the story, Slayers are "called" (chosen by fate) to battle against vampires, demons, and other forces of darkness. Like previous Slayers, Buffy is aided by a Watcher, who guides, teaches, and trains her. Unlike her predecessors, Buffy surrounds herself with a circle of loyal friends who become known as the "Scooby Gang".

The series usually reached between four and six million viewers on original airings. Although such ratings are lower than successful shows on the "big four" networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox), they were a success for the relatively new and smaller WB Television Network. Reviews for the show were positive, and has been included in many "best of" lists, including being ranked #41 on the list of TV Guide's 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time, #2 on Empire's 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time, voted #3 in TV Guide's Top 25 Cult TV Shows of All Time and listed in Time magazine's "100 Best TV Shows of All-TIME." It was nominated for Emmy and Golden Globe awards, winning a total of 3 Emmys. However, snubs in lead Emmy categories resulted in outrage among TV critics and the decision by the academy to hold a tribute event in honor of the series after it had gone off the air in 2003.

The WB network ceased operation on September 17, 2006 after airing a homage to its "most memorable series", including the pilot episodes of Buffy and its spin-off Angel. Buffy's success has led to hundreds of tie-in products, including novels, comics, and video games. The series has received attention in fandom (including fan films), parody, and academia, and has influenced the direction of other television series.

Tomorrow is the TV Buffy marathon, for 6 hours again. It definitely makes me look forward to Friday now. :D

Prophecy Girl was the last episode that was on last week, so tomorrow will start season 2. Prophecy Girl will always be one of my favorites.

I was heartbroken for Buffy in "When She Was Bad", at the end.

Season 2 is very emotionally driven, and it's one of the most intense for me.

That´s really cool  Have fun!
Season 2 is great! Loved Buffy/Angel, Spike/Drusilla and later Angelus.
Season 3 is also really cool with Faith and the mayor.

There You'll Be 04-05-2018 08:28 AM

Season 2 really pulled at my heart strings. Also, David played Angelus so well I completely forgot he had been Angel.

I love season 3, too, because of Faith. She was written really well. The mayor was definitely bad.

BlackWhiteRose 04-05-2018 10:48 AM

Yeah David was so good as Angelus :thud:
For me the mayor was a nice bad guy :D

There You'll Be 04-06-2018 05:30 AM

I hated the mayor. He was the first Buffy villain to scare me.

He was hysterical though-with that very dry humor, and the way he said things so directly. :D

BlackWhiteRose 04-07-2018 02:08 AM

Yeah the mayor has a great sense of humor :D

Yesterday, on the marathon, School Hard, and Halloween were on. Those are 2 of my favorites.

It was when Giles and Jenny were getting much closer. I LOVED them, and it was devastating to watch what happened with them.

BlackWhiteRose 04-10-2018 02:46 AM

Aw Season 2 was so great!

There You'll Be 04-10-2018 10:51 AM

I have to say, because of Faith, I thought season 3 was my favorite, but now, I think it was season 2. There were a couple of terrible episodes, but most of them were stellar.

I guess all of the seasons were great in their own way. Season 4 I still have an aversion to, because of Riley.

BlackWhiteRose 04-11-2018 03:45 AM

Season 3 was so great! Faith was awesome! And I love Season 2. So both are my favourite seasons and Season 5 was great IMO. Loved Glory!
Season 4 had a lot of funny episodes (Beer Bad, Pangs, Something Blue, Fear Itself, Doomed, A New Man) and Spike was hysterical in that season  I was so amused
Riley was just boring  and Professor Walsh...well I agree with Giles about her
