Spain holds first napping competition An unemployed security guard from Ecuador is now $1,000 euros ($1,430) richer and slightly more refreshed after winning the first Siesta Championship. The contest, organized by the National Association of Friends of the Siesta to promote the national tradition of taking a nap in the afternoon, was held in a busy shopping centre in Madrid reports British paper The Telegraph. More than three hundred contestants were given 20 minutes to lie down on a sofa in an attempt to sleep the longest during that time. A doctor was on hand to monitor how long they were actually sleeping. Sixty-two-year-old Pedro Soria Lopez said having a big lunch helped him fall into a deep snooze, which got extra points because he also snored at 70 decibels (the same as someone talking loudly). Contestants were also given extra points for original sleeping positions and choice of napping apparel.

At night, I would totally tank. But in the middle of the day? I have years of training for this.

I've fallen asleep in all matter of moving vehicles, hospital waiting rooms, hotel rooms, meeting rooms, classrooms...

I'm telling you, I would rule this "sport".

Baby seized after mother eats poppy seed bagel A lawsuit was filed Thursday in Pennsylvania after a mother's newborn was taken from her by child services after she ate a poppy seed bagel, skewing the results of a drug test. NBC News reports that Elizabeth Mort's blood work at a hospital tested positive for opiates because she ate a poppy seed bagel before having the baby. Three days after giving birth, Children and Youth Services came to Mort's home to take the baby away. Little Isabella was returned to her mother five days after, when it was shown that Mort did not take any illegal drugs. "It felt like our heart was ripped in pieces," she told NBC. "The most important person was missing, and we didn't know when we would see her again." The American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit on behalf of the parents against CYS and Jameson Hospital where the blood tests were analyzed.

So either those tests are incredibly fallible and easy to falsify. Or that's a heck of a distinction to make.

Man jailed for stealing cheese A Newfoundland and Labrador man has been sentenced two weeks behind bars for pocketing a $6.22 block of cheese. Paulus Simeon Semigak, 52, was sentenced Wednesday in Gander, N.L., reports CBC, after he was caught stealing cheese from a Sobeys grocery store in St. John's. He was convicted of theft under $5,000. He also received one year of probation. Semigak has a 22-page criminal record, which shows a history of alcohol abuse and non-compliance with court orders.

I understand the circumstances, but it's still odd that the thing that took his man down (for a short while anyhow) was a $6 hunk of cheese.
