To begin the celebrations, I have a little surprise for everyone. ;)
As some of you may have seen or been aware, one particular Smallville fan decided
to do something super special for the cast, and invited fans to make digital cards
dedicated to the show and the cast (through a site called awesomebox.com).
This was finished on October 2nd, and will be sent out to the cast, (Tom, Michael,
Erica, Laura, Kristin and John Glover) where the first 100 cards are printed into
a special box and the rest to be shown digitally. After I had participated and made
a card, an idea popped into my head, why not use this opportunity to tell the cast
about our own celebration of Smallville's 20th anniversary here at :ff:! So I made
another card showing the links to our Smallville and Tom boards and included our
names too! This card was too late to be included in the prints, but it will be shown
digitally. Keeping :fingers_crossed: that we'll somehow get see Tom, Michael and
the others opening the box and reading the cards. That will be amazing!
Here is the the card and message I made to show you. :)
I fell in love with Tom Welling when I first saw him in
"Cheaper By The Dozen" back in December 2003. I started watching Smallville
Season One on TV in August 2004, and half of Season Two in January, 2005.
By, March, 2005, I saw the first half of Season Four, and in June, 2005, I saw
Season Three. By the start of Season Five, I have been hooked, following weekly
and watching up to date to the best of my access at the time. I have tried to join
every community online through the years, and Fan Forum is super special at this
point. I LOVE Tom's portrayal of Clark Kent/Kal-El Of Krypton in all 218 episodes
of the entire series! As I have told Tom: "Smallville is a fantastic television series
which was SO MUCH MORE than JUST a TV show. You revitalized an American
legend/icon with your convincing portrayal of Clark Kent, and it is one of the
many reasons I look up to you as my HERO! As Smallville's 3in1, you were totally
involved in "We are scientists in creation of memory, but our memories will never
blur nor fade."" I continue to love and support Tom through all aspects of life,
and I am so proud of him in every way! SMALLVILLE FOREVER!
Jessica
Happy 20th anniversary, Smallville! I enjoyed getting
to see Clark Kent growing up into the man that we have always loved in the comics.
Superman had been my favorite superhero for as long as I can remember, and I
loved to see this version of him! As the show was airing, I was around the same
age as the characters in the show, so it was kinda fun to “grow up” with them!
Lois & Clark became a huge love story that I loved following and I am super glad
there’s a place here on to talk about them! Congrats, again to the cast & crew &
fans of the show on 20 years of a super fantastic show that will never be forgotten
because of the impact it had on the comic-book universe!
Liv's extra long testimonial
Spoiler:
The show was a comfort to me, like a warm blanket that helped me
through my stressful time at university. That year, I had traveled to uni
from home as I didn’t live too far away, but the following year in August 2010
I moved out of home to stay at student accommodation close to campus. That
year was incredibly nerve-wrecking and stressful for a number of reasons, it
was my first time away from home and I was somewhat shy and not confident
enough in my ability to be independent. When S10 started to air in the US as I
started that first (and only) year away, it felt like it took an incredibly long time
for E4 to start showing it over here.Fortunately, shortly before the move,
in July 2010, I joined two online forum communities that saved my life. The first
was the Kryptonsite Forums dedicated to Smallville, the second was here at
Fan Forum, two boards of which I frequented include the Tom Welling board
and the Smallville board. I’ve met so many amazing people and fellow fans of the
show here and at Ksite. You're all awesome and great friends! As with the show,
they were my extra comfort blanket, where I could chat about the show with fellow
fans and have fun, where I could have somewhere to escape to and people to talk to
when I had no one (except my family of course) to talk to. The very few “friends”
I did have in real life at uni I felt I couldn’t really talk to whereas I felt more
comfortable with my fellow online Smallville comrades. And to this day I am still
hereat Fan Forum, and it is still my escape and my comfort. It was Smallville that
gave me that opportunity and I don’t know where I would be without the show today.
Because there was a delay with E4 airing S10, I had to resort to finding the episodes
online again. But I’m glad I did because it kept me sane under the stress of the workload
I was under. I was really sad it was coming to an end so quickly, because for me, it wasn’t
10 years it was just 2 years and I watched the entire show in that time. But, I still had
the forums and a place to discuss the show. Plus, there was always re-watches!
Asides from connecting with fans online, I did watch Smallville with a couple of
family members. I cannot exactly remember when I first got my mum to watch
the show with me, but it must have been before I left home for uni, or indeed,
how I got her to watch it with me, but we watched the first season or so
together and then my mum watched a few episodes on her own whilst I was away.
When I returned home, we finished the show together. I have many fond memories
of watching it with her, though she wasn’t necessarily a fan of the show, she tells me
I forced her to “slog through all 210 episodes” lol but she enjoyed it for what it was.
She remembers the Superman comics and the Christopher Reeve films, so I think her
interest lied more so with that than anything else, though I think she also wanted to see
why I had such a crush on Tom  Her favourite character was definitely Lex, she kept
telling me how Lex was far sexier than Clark  Honestly, I think my mum referred to
him as “Sexy Lexy” before Michael conned that nickname for himself. We had to
battle it out. Let’s face it though, Michael Rosenbaum is definitely the best looking
Lex Luthor, as well as the best actor. I also watched a few episodes with my sister,
but that was whilst we were on holiday, I had bought a few of the DVDs with me and
on the days it rained and we had nothing to do we watched it on my laptop. Again,
she wasn’t really a fan of the show, but was willing to watch a little with how bored
we were.
During my first watch of the show, I started a HUGE passion project where I reviewed
in detail and scored every single episode up until S9 was about to air, and then I would
review S9 after watching each episode. This was done on a Microsoft word processor,
when I used a Windows processor laptop for Uni work as well as a Mac. Sadly, I can’t
remember if I ever finished it, because my last save was when I was about half way
through S10 and that’s when I stopped using my Acer laptop and I moved to just using
myMacBook. I emailed the document to myself and saved it on USB, thinking I could just
transfer it over to Mac’s far simpler Text Edit. It didn’t transfer very well and it took me
ages to fix it. But those last few episodes, if I did review them, were gone. But, on
my next re-watch when my Blu Ray box set arrives for the 20th anniversary, I will
definitely re-write the reviews for the last few episodes to finally finish the project
I started.
As the show ended, the cast moved on, Tom took a long, well deserved and much
needed rest, I started to get into other shows and films of the Superman franchise.
And next on my watch was Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, where
Dean & Teri became my second favourite Clois behind Tom and Erica. It was so very
90’s yet so very hot. After watching all 4 seasons I watched them again with my mum.
I had a distinct knack at the time to get her to watch my favourite shows and it still works
from time to time. :D I think my mum enjoyed that show more, perhaps only because it
was 4 seasons instead of 10. I liked how Dean Cain appeared in an episode of S8 of
Smallville as villain Dr. Curtis Knox (C.K. I see what they did there) and Teri Hatcher also
had a small cameo on the show in tape form as Lois’s dying mother in S10.
I then finally watched the Christopher Reeve films, but only the first two to begin with
(I watched the third one and boy was that a hit and miss, the best thing about it was
seeing Annette O’Toole as Lana Lang) and I found a deep understanding and appreciation
of why they were so loved and two of the best superhero movies ever,
and indeed, why Christopher Reeve was and always will be the best Superman
to have ever lived. Not to mention, how amazing and poignant it was, when he
appeared in Smallville as Dr Virgil Swann in S2’s much loved episode, Rosetta,
in which he explains Clark’s destiny. It was like he was passing down the ‘torch’
as it were. It was nice he was able to return again in S3’s “Legacy” in which he
has a short but great scene with Lionel Luthor, which was his last acting appearance
before his sad passing in 2004. That’s what I loved about Smallville, how they were able
to get all these actors who have a history in the Superman mythology appear on the show,
it just made it’s legacy that much more special. Not only did they have Reeve, Cain and Hatcher
(apparently, they didn’t even realise about Annette being in Superman III until after
they had cast her as Martha) but they also had Terrance Stamp (General Zod in Superman II)
as the voice of Jor-El, and then you have actors who guest starred in Smallville
in their early days to later return to the Superman Universe, like Amy Adams who played
teenager Jodi Melville in S1’s Craving, she went on to play Lois Lane in Man of Steel in 2013
and subsequently, the DC Extended Universe. You seriously cannot get more interconnected
than that and that’s what makes Smallville so integral to the Superman and DC Universe,
not to mention, it was the one to start the whole DC extended universe shows with Arrow, Supergirl,
The Flash and others. We probably wouldn’t have had any of those if it weren’t for Smallville.
Fast forward to July 2018, my dreams finally came true when I got to meet
Tom Welling at London Film and Comic Con, where I also met John Schneider.
That was an amazing experience in of itself, let alone my insane luck of also
getting to meet Tom again, as well as Michael Rosenbaum, Erica Durance
and Laura Vandervoort at Wales Comic Con in December 2019. Getting to
meet some of the cast of the show that changed my life has seriously been
a dream come true, and I will forever be grateful of my good fortunes.
It’s thanks to these guys continuing to attend comic cons and other events,
remembering and celebrating Smallville with the fans that that the show is still
talked about and revered, and that it still attracts new viewers to this day.
They are the best to us fans, couldn’t be kinder or more generous, and
Smallville fans are the best because of them! Always Hold On To Smallville.
THIS OP WAS MADE BY Liv!! I just helped finish it out, but most of the work and organization is because of Liv. Thanks so much for all of this Liv.:) We appreciate you.
Two boards are celebrating the 20th Anniversary! This board and Smallville board.:)

My first batch of icons needn't be in the spoiler tags. ;) :P
Now just gonna change my icon and sig. Brb. :gone:
There is a limit to how many photos you can put in the OP before it goes under spoiler tags. 35 images is the limit. So usually if people have more photos then that, they make 2 pages of an OP. ;)
