And every time Xander expressed anger over Buffy's relationships, you could tell jealousy was the motivating factor (Angel, Spike)

In fact, the ONE time he doesn't is when she's with Riley ... And you have to wonder if it's because he could sense that she wasn't really that serious about Riley.

Main one I can think of is that slip-up

in S5:

"Not that I'm still into Buffy -- NOT THAT I EVER WAS"

(The Replacement)

Although I do think it was interesting that in Season 4, Buffy insinuated to Xander that he told Riley about Angel's curse in an attempt to screw things up for their relationship.

I personally don't think that was the case; I got the sense that Xander genuinely thought Riley already knew.

I don't think that was the case either, when you watch the scene, it hadn't really clicked with him that Riley didn't know

I was thinking of 4x07 when Xander makes a comment about Buffy talking to Riley at the party, he seemed a little bitter

I would've given anything at the time to see Buffy and Xander get together instead of the introductions of Riley and Anya

Another misstep in Season 4.

Never thought Xander suited Anya. She always seemed too demanding of him. The Buffy/Riley thing doesn't need much explanation -- he was "Mr Dependable" to her, as Xander said.

^ Just that 4x01 scene of Buffy/Xander! They really could've build up starting there.

He really was the one to make Buffy not be so down about herself.

It was nice to see.

Totally agree with you there, Tia. His speech to her in The Freshman was so uplifting and full of unconditional love that it could have been the main thing to switch on Buffy's brain to how much he truly does care about her.

Instead, a whole range of new people are introduced and we're left with Buffy and Xander barely interacting all season.
