That hug was the ONLY time I saw romantic chemistry between them. There was fire there when Buffy looked at Xander then walked away. Oh well lol but in general, I never saw that type of chemistry with them regularly. They always come through as brother and sister to me which is why a romantic relationship with them would of never worked IMO. On the other hand, I find Spike/Buffy to be even more ridiculous, OOC, and bogus (mostly abusive being the most problematic thing as well) so I definitely would of taken Xander/Buffy over Spike/Buffy *pukes*

I saw romantic vibes quite a few times in s2, & a little in s4 as well, but I get why a lot of people only saw it as platonic.

I do wish something more had happened after that look, even if it only lasted one ep & then they decided they were better off as friends, just to settle that question

Yeah I also would have prefered Buffy/Xander over Buffy/Spike. Too bad Buffy never loved Xander...
